Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

i put a locking carabiner on one of my (gloved) hands. it's easier than a u-lock. not as hefty, mind you, but i'm not out to break any windows--just knock their paneling as a firm warning.

Sounds like camouflaged brass knuckles. Sweet.

well sort of. it's on the outside of the glove, otherwise it would be painful to the hand. and it's really helpful when you need to "contact-honk" at a car. i don't like to be aggro, but if i'm bouncing off cars or getting squeezed between two, i don't want to knock bare-handed

I would never advocate violence against another human being. I love puppies and fluffy bunnies.

Having said that,I have heard about anti-social cyclists who've picked up and carry bic-able Kryptonites from LBS's for cheap/free for just that purpose.

Not that I'm suggesting anything. I'm just sayin'.

There's been more than a few drivers this holiday season that I wanted to rage on, but I always hesitate because I figure this person's obviously got something against bikers (there's enough people like that already) and if I smash up his car he'll probably run over the next cyclist he sees instead of just driving like an *******. It'll just create more hostility to cyclists. I'm so torn between revenge and making a bad situation worse in the long run. This is if it's a close call, of course. If I get hit forget it.

While my head tends to side with skelly -- escalation/retaliation just makes things worse -- my reptile brain is right there with queerpunk, wanting to beat on them with locking carabiners.

Hey! Those even come in stealth black: https://www.galaxyarmynavy.com/prodde...od=294&cat=190

Who knew?

hey, i never said i use it for beating on drivers! just for knocking on their cars!

anyway, carabiners that large can be purchased at outdoor supply stores. you're going to want one that's large, made for climbing, unless you have tiny little paws. if you have big meaty hands, you're going to need something more than a carabiner keychain.

anyway, my brain also says that escalation/retaliation sucks.
