Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

stolen conversion... nyc.

bike thieves get to go to a special part of hell, but the ones that steal my ****ty conversion from a sea of spanking new treks locked with pencil-thin cable locks, on the one day that i can't just do the subway ride of shame but instead get to do the freezing cold walk of shame... fhjasdlhafjksd.

stolen from 13th street and 5th avenue in front of parsons.

anyway, so y'all can keep them peeled:
black motobecane grand jubilee, with red accents. 53cm-ish.
converted to fixed.
chopped and flipped bars with white tape. white tape that is ripped to **** around the curves because i wiped out like whoa today on a puddle of... soap?
clips and straps. 39x15.

now for the super identifiable details section:
the front wheel is out of true... i trued my first wheel today! and i did an okay job, as post-crash it was pretty terrible, and i made it better, but also worse in a way because i had to use vice grips before i got my hands on a spoke wrench (i am such a special kid, i know this now) so it's got some UNNATTURALLY stripped nipples. they look like they got chewed on.
the top tube braze-ons are filed off. the downtube braze ons.... one of them is partially filed off and the other one is still intact. i got lazy. who knew this would be an identifiable detail.
on the electrical tape front... theres a red skull on one side of the seat tube, and a red heart on the other side. theres also a strip of red tape sort of candycane striped around the top tube, because i took it off of something then wrapped it around there for a minute and forgot about it.

i feel like a bad mom for never putting it on fixed gear gallery, and i weirdly don't seem to even have any pictures of it. this one's pretty much a dead ringer though, save for the bars. https://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2004/d/sip.htm

if someone tries to sell this to you, pick it up for me, would you? or just u-lock it and the mother****er to a no parking sign, and i'll deal with them both myself. thanks guys.

i was locked with the thickest chain they have at home depot (the one that they cut with the hydraulic cutter because "bolt cutters can't cut it"... psh) and one of those donut-shaped master locks. they cut through the chain, not the lock.

it's one of those things where i know i should have had a kryptonite chain, but i never bothered because what i had was working. i guess it works until it doesn't.

damnn....as soon as you said thickest chain at home depot....I thought , "clip, clip"...don't know why they told you that, or even used a hydraulic cutter for it
it probably wasn't a hardened chain either...or was it?

anyways...sorry to hear that....hope you come across it somehow... if not..hope you build up something next that you like better, and wouldn't call ****ty
I think I'm gonna invest in an ABUS lock and chain when the paper comes thru...this, and that other thread got me shook

Bikes: Scrap yard fixies

Thats the kicker, they leave the treks cause they think "thats a nice bike, someone is really gonna try and track that down if I take it" never knowing that they just f**ked up bad and now they have a bunch of angry riders on their hands and not just some jerk waiting by his cell phone for the cops to call back.

good luck. I hope you guys out there find it.

Bikes: Crappy but operational secondhand Motobecane Messenger

Someone was looking for a fixed gear .... not a geared bike. That person is already painting it on a different color.

YAY for mrRed!
i'm like 5'7, not fat but closer to it than skinny (though who can really tell in teh winter), wear a black helmet with red straps, dress kind of like the most half-assed hipster you'd ever see. or a posenger.
this is a pretty bad description. i have a big head. im a girl but sometimes people are fooled. and im riding an orange bmx these days, so stop me and say hi if you see me
