Why not the San Jose? Oh yeah, because they made a bike that is ideal for most people on this forum. Forgot; and it's the cheapest one. Why would they make such a bike?

No, because I already knew about it from that sweet hipster thread I started. And my bikes are my life and I really like my life so I would like to ride something a little nicer. Does anyone have a Kelly, I almost got a ss MTB from them one time? Oh yeah, what are you tryin to say with that ideal for this forum comment? Are you sayin everyone on this forum rides cheap bikes and sucks at life, man that is harsh.

just built up a new il pompino. it's nice. i like it. but my happiness in life does not revolve around what brand or logo is on the side of my frames. ;) been commuting on it for a bit now, and have had a few longer gravel/dirt road stretches. far more comfy than the crosscheck frame it replaced. same parts. not really sure what the difference it. now has my rear rack and front/rear fenders on.

caveat: limited tire clearance. i've got 38mm rubber in there now, and don't think i could run anything fatter. pretty tight as it is.

another option: take whatever geared cross frame you have or may want, and use the white industries eno eccentric rear hub as the base for the rear wheel.

would canti brakes offer stronger stopping power then V's if your using road levers?

uh, well, i'm not having any trouble stopping with what i have, so, no.

got plenty of clearance rim-pad wise, and the levers engage where i want them to. all about the setup!

edit: i had a set of old school paul's mtb cantis to start with. great on the front, but the cable routing to the rear sucked for them. left them with way too much cable/housing friction no matter what i did, short of just zip tying the cable run on, but even that sucked. i'd have rather used the paul's but these are actually working far better than they ever did. i'd rather have non-bling brakes that work very well vs. blingy brakes that work so-so.

everyone needs a ss cyclocross bike for the day the world is attacked by little green aliens with lazer guns and all we have left are fire roads.

here in MN you end up dressing like a lumberjack any time you want to go outside. ...but yeah, the crosscheck is a monster truck.

i've seen photos of the kelly cross bikes on RBR in their cyclocross forum. i can't recall if any of them were SS, but they're pretty SS friendly in the cyclocross section of RBR. you might have luck posting there.

I've been looking at the San Jose, just because it's so cheap and I probably won't be using that type of bike all that much. I also have parts in the bin to do a few upgrades.

Feel free to laugh at me if I get one.

i think that the san jose is a great move. beats the heck out of a track bike when it comes to practical applications.
