Replacement Decals...?

I am in the midst of purchace of an NJS Level frame. The frame is gorgeous but is used and I would love to put a nice paint job on it, but I want to keep the decals. Is there anywhere to purchase replacements?

did you buy it from strattond? he might (doubtfully) know. also, ceya has a level. i do too, but i don't know about replacement decals.

Do a google on decal paper. You can make your own with the right jpeg file of your logo and a printer. Historically accurate even. My buddy restore a Centurion and found the images, got the paper and put them on.

My understanding is the decal paper for an inkjet comes with a coating for preservation.

I see what I can do in Nippon. Is it the one with the backwards "L"?

it'll cost you (and take a while), but cyclart can surely either replace with factory replicas or recreate the decals exactly as part of a re-finish.

Just click the link I posted and order some decals from Michael before he raises his prices. If you need testamonials. check the vintage forum.

i remember a thread a few weeks ago, but everyone was just talking about cut vinyl decals. is there anyone out there that makes the old school soak-in-water model airplane style decals that most old bike decals seem like they are (would obviously need a clear coat over them).

i know of some model train companies that make them, especially for graffiti on trains, but haven't seen it on a large scale.

"You can make your own with the right jpeg file of your logo and a printer"

if you're going to shoot out quality images from a desktop printer - make sure your images are vector (optimal - web.brandsoftheworld.com) or 300dpi. even though the printer will probably only print at around 200 dpi, with a high apparent resolution, you still might get some noise unless your desktop printer is some pimp ****.

Anyone have/can get me a hi-res jpeg or eps of the older, curly Bianchi logo?

MLPROJECT 12-29-05 04:04 PM

did you try brands of the world?

spider-man 12-29-05 04:05 PM

There's a cat on the Classic and Vintage forum, mswantak, who reproduces decals, very highly regarded. If you are looking for older stuff, you might query there. He's got a web site. I'll post it if I can track it down.

Are my posts invisible?

mrRed 12-29-05 04:32 PM

did someone say something? :D

Sorry, I was wearing sunglasses.

This might be of use to no one but I have an extra set of Surly Steamroller decals that came with the frame when I ordered it. Let me know if any of you guys need them as I've already sold the damn thing..

hyperRevue 12-29-05 05:44 PM

Suzie Q.
She made me two custom Bianchi downtube decals for $20.
www.decalzbysuzieq.com
She does all Johnny Cycles' stencils and decals.
Great work.
You'd be stupid not to go to her.

Hands down the ugliest decals ever designed.

eddiebrannan 12-29-05 05:49 PM

hyperevue what did she do? have you a pic? velographic don't have downtube decals for bianchis it seems

hyperRevue 12-29-05 05:52 PM

Check out #2,785 on my signature - bottom picture.
I told her what I wanted and sent her a pic and she made it.
I sort of lucked out because the "Bianchi" font wasn't too hard to find.
But if you can get her a picture of what you're looking for, I'm sure she can make it happen.

eddiebrannan 12-29-05 05:57 PM

oh that's yours. i'd seen it but not via your sig. nice job.

i'm looking for the older bianchi logo. can't seem to find it anywhere

MLPROJECT 12-29-05 06:20 PM

do you have even a crappy res version of it so i could keep my eyes open?

eddiebrannan 12-29-05 07:19 PM

here

hyperRevue 12-29-05 07:25 PM

Those look the same to me.
What am I not seeing?

hyperRevue 12-29-05 07:32 PM

Either way, I'd still email her the best picture you've got and see what she says.
suzieq@suzieillustrator.com
Chances are she'll be able to make them.

On a sidenote, when I first was trying to get my decals made, someone on here pointed me to this: http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
Quite possibly the coolest website ever.
From a simple jpeg it can tell you the font of most anything.

MLPROJECT 12-29-05 07:55 PM

hmm... the bianchi just looks like a thinner weight with the rules on either end..?

i'll look around though.

on reflection that isn't the one either. was looking at it weird earlier.

difference there is that it is not italic as currently used.

however the logo i'm after has an entirely different typeface, more ornate and rounded, almost beau-arts, definitely not just a sans-serif.

i'l keep looking

edit: found this

http://www.velo-retro.com/vrbooks.gifs/Bianchi50.gif

and maybe i was thinking of what's currently used on the milano as well

This?

That's pretty hot.
I sort of wish I had used this on my Pista remake.

eddiebrannan 12-29-05 08:19 PM

yup
that
looks good with the outlining and the drop shadow too, though normally i hate rococo **** like that
