Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

You know that "high" you get on a nice day after a long ride? On my fixed I can get it after 2 hours but on my geared bike it takes 4.

that's the same ratio (we) runners maintain it takes to call up yer endorphins runnin' vs. bikin'. so fixed is to gears as runnin' is to bikin' in general. but, as ol' shants and others have pointed out, there's too many more variables involved for there to be a hard and fast formula. if ya do both pretty hard day in ad day out though, your runnin' gets better and so does your bikin'. but ya'll prolly knew that.
