Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Backwards circle question.

I've been working on this casually for a while, and I always seem to get hung up about 3/4 of the way around. I think it might just be that I'm already anticipating having to change direction, but in the videos I've watched it seems like this is the part of the circle where your momentum comes into play, but since I suck so badly at this I've been taking it slow, which means I can't really lean into the turns. Soo... does more speed help at first?

Ok. Flame away.

all i can say is don't go too slow, and don't go too fast. when you get to that "dead" part in the rotation, try throwing your weight forward. seems to work for me.

think about it...if you're going too slow, 's almost impossible to create pedaling force when the cranks are vertical...

also...trying to ride backwards (not in circles) helped me a lot because you have to get used to steering to keep the bike under you while going backwards

I start my backwards circles sitting, and about halfway through I stand up just a little. Gives me more balance.
