I was going to wait to post this, but I'm pretty excited so I just had do it.
Gene at Spicer Cycles set me up. Titanium fork and frame, custom, 29ner. The geometry is not exactly what I wanted, but my prefered top tube is not physically possible in a 29ner. I've most of the components, but I'm still trying to work out the crankset. I've excited to try out the level components fixed/fixed hub. I'm going to run a 'mullet' -- disc in the front, V-brake in the rear. I'll be building a Phil fixed/free for my real XC riding, just in case things get too technical. |
Fun looking frame!

holy crap. that's going to look great built up! is it suspension corrected? it looks that way, but since it's a smaller frame i'm not sure... reminds me a bit of the new niner's geometry.
what cranks are you considering? two piece xt's? yes indeed. have you ridden in red rocks park yet? |
Yes, that thing is the ****.
|
That looks like it's going to be a blast to ride.

is that a spicer fork? I love that style of rigid fork
|
Yup, Spicer fork and frame. I don't care for the Spicer logo so I just had him put the head tube and seat tube stickers on.
Found a crankset ala Matt Chester's recommendation: RaceFace Turbine LP Square Taper |
wow...that's a really weird looking frame. what're you using it for? cyclocross, did you say? is that how they normally do those frames? not on any i've seen.
|
Not so much cyclocross, but cross country mtb and commuting and playing etc.
My wheels will accept cyclocross tyres so I can go pretty lean, if I wish. It's weird looking because it takes 29" wheels and yet has @ 28" inch standover. |
ah, i get it. it looked almost more like a bmx frame. i see now.

1. Boom, that thing is nice! I have a second hand spicer, and I love it. You will dig.
2. With a Ti fork, unless you're doing drops, that should do pretty well. What are the trails like where you are? 3. /me is jealous of you finding square taper turbines. All in all, that bike will be wunderbar. |

All in all, that bike will be wunderbar. Yah, no real drops for me, unless I fall off a mountain. There's a little of every thing out here: high elevation, dry, sandy, rocky singletrack. Here are some photos of my immediate area. I got the Turbines via Chain Reaction Cycles in the UK. |
i'm majorly jealous. short of a matt chester custom, this is a dream bike.

I'd say I'm more jealous of where you live than your bike, but that's just me =)
That bike just looks fun though, that's gonna rock. I'd say you should put something like a wide profile Paul Canti on the back, because it's not really about the power of the V-Brake that is necessary in the back but good modulation right? |
is anybody else hopelessly in love with the girl in that gif.....I mean besidesbrad from trackstar.

You know, I am a somewhat recent relocation, so this frame is quite a departure for me. There are no mountains in Ohio! I concur with your rear brake assessment. |
I suspect that it's not suspension corrected. Given the angles and the fact that it's a 29er, I may not be getting the right feel for it, but it looks like there's no really any room for travel in the fork/downtube clearances.
