forks forks forks

what kind of forks are people running on their rigs? ive been thinking about getting a new one. you know, upgrading. steel is real, but carbon is kinda kool.

hyperRevue 01-22-06 11:18 PM

Basic Soma cromo fork and a Bikewworks NYC straightblade.
Love them both.
The lugged Soma really classed up my Pista.

bigbikerbrian 01-22-06 11:30 PM

thats what im talking about, that classin up the pista thing. im over this crapass shiny thing.

edit: did you get the lugged track fork? its the same rake as the pista, right?

hyperRevue 01-22-06 11:32 PM

yeah ....totally like that....totally. ok. im going to go wipe up now. thanks folks.

whoosh! 01-23-06 12:52 AM

the beautiful thing about TT conversions is the ridiculously cheap 650c deals on ebay.

i'm talkin tri-spoke spin wheels for a hunnerd.

anyways... paid 7 bucks for a decent 'luminum aero straight blade. got a time stilleto carbon for 10 or so. but i havent been ready to cross that bridge yet... makes me think of dudes in lycra and giros cruising down river drive at noon on a sunday.

bigbikerbrian 01-23-06 01:30 AM

huh. how much is a 650 wheelset? bout the same as 700s?

Carbon forks for 50 bucks.

mattface 01-23-06 09:34 AM

I like the looks of that bikeworks fork a lot. I woulda gotten one of those if my frameset hadn't come with a perfectly nice fork.

My Pake came with a decent fork but since I wanted threaded I went with the BikeWorks and put the Soma fork on my Pista. Win-Win.

eddiebrannan 01-23-06 09:55 AM

i managed to score a rather nice colnago fork for my pista. elevated the game nicely

What sort of tire clearance does the Bikeworks one have?

onetwentyeight 01-27-06 01:27 AM

i love my fork, i think its my favorite part of my bike besides the frame itself.

its pretty.

im really bored right now and realize i am not adding to this conversation by saying this crap at all. oh well. heh.

DavidfromAlaska 01-27-06 01:46 AM

Does anyone know where to get really simple, easy-to-understand, detailed information describing how to install an Easton EC90 SLX? I need something along the lines of "Bike Mechanics for (true) Dummies" if there is such a thing. Cutting and measuring are not the problems. I am using a CK headset and I don't know how to get a tight fit at the upper end. i'll take it to a shop if necessary but I'd like to be able to do it myself. Thanks in advance.

sers 01-27-06 01:53 AM

a lugged fork on a non-lugged frame looks odd to me.

truth be told i'd run a carbon fork to smooth out my ride if i didn't think the local streets would bust it in half.

Pista fork rake is 28mm and Soma Rush, I believe, is 31mm so they're pretty close. Haven't got the details to hand so this is from memory.

Theres also lots of threads on carbon forks and pistas if you search (and if you're interested in such a thing) ie:

~stella 01-27-06 10:44 AM

spicer also has a track fork in a bunch of colors, threaded and threadless.

pichote 01-27-06 10:51 AM

there is something about a $50 carbon fork that makes me think "bad." ever since colleen's philly alley cat for her carbon failure, i try to stay away from that stuff. call me a *****, but voids scare the crap out me. guaranteed for life, unless your dead. whoo.

isotopesope 01-27-06 03:50 PM

i had a reynolds ouzo pro on my iro. that fork was great and incredibly light.

i agree; a 50 dollar carbon fork sounds too risky. you get what you pay for.

agreed.

I wouldn't worry too much about those carbon forks - they're the same as other, higher-priced forks, just without the brand painted on. Martec manufactures CF forks for a number of companies.
