All you young whippersnappers whizzing around on yer shiny chrome track bikes think you own the streets!!!
Why when I was your age we didn't even HAVE cars we had to dodge horse drawn carriages to get OUR kicks! And another thing just because you're young and physically fit you think you're so "cool". You don't have any RESPONSIBILITY! If you manage to survive long enough to have kids of your own I hope they are as irresponsible as YOU! THEN you'll understand! |

I don't agree the composure of your post, however, I will say this... while fixed riders certainly aren't out there getting cheap thrills dodging cars, fixed riders are easily more adept at moving through traffic without having to stop and/or be scared of the traffic and are probably safer riders because they/we learn to become a part of and make their way through it also...I'd go as far as to say that in general, peronalities inclined toward fixed gear, and especially breakless, are prob more street smart, and street-aware than normal roadies...period |
I aim for cars.
sometimes I ride with my eye's closed. I don't have a lock ring. I don't shower. The Clash is the only band that matters. I have a light on my bike, but it's shining on me so that people can see how cool I am. ALL of those statements are true. |

My original comment: "he may think you're one of those ss/fixie guys getting cheap thrills dodging cars". I hope you can make out the subtle distinction. As for your comments about skills, I've never known the bike to make the rider. You seem to be implying that a fixed gear with no brakes makes a rider better. Of course, I suppose that could just be a matter of one person's interpretation. |
no, he said that the people who are inclined to ride fixies are also probably more street smart and adept at riding in traffic. Which I agree with.
If you can't 'grab a handful of brake' to stop but rather have to pitch your whole body (more or less) into the act, you're going to be anticipating the moment more every time. "peronalities inclined toward fixed gear, and especially breakless, are prob more street smart, and street-aware than normal roadies" |
is he the front half or the back half? cause before i can take a side i would need that information.

Of course, I suppose that could just be a matter of one person's interpretation. while individual words can certainly make the difference in the meaning of a sentence, thought, idea, whatever,...your choice to distinguish the fact that you said "one of those" does not void you of responsibilities of the implied reasoning in the sequencing of the phrases in your statement (which was of the most imporance in what you said) in fact, it is eaaaasily arguable that your use of the phrase "one of those" at least hints as a direct stereotype of ALL fixed gear riders...just as "those people", "you people", and the likes have been traditional stereotyped phrases in our english language oh..and the bike doesn't make the rider, the rider makes the bike (at least in this forum :D )... and...yes...different bikes cause you to ride differently... I power up hills, where if I had a whiny cycle, I might gear down... I ride through turns and have much better maneuvering control, because the precision nature of my speed control provides it |
Wowza. I shrr am sad I missed this one.
