I clicked on this thread with the specific purpose of making sure Murakami was discussed. His books blow my mind. South of the Border, West of the Sun was my first introduction to him, and I've been in love ever since. I'm still trying to find Hear the Wind Sing in english...

The reading list thread gave me a huge list of books I wanted to read sometime. Got a bunch of them for Christmas. This is a great thread.

I'm happy to see some Paul Auster action up in here. I was kind of surprised that his name didn't pop up too much in the other book thread... sort of how I get surprised when people talk about their favorite bands ever and no one mentions Fugazi.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was the last book to fall victim to my recent inability to finish a book. It was good as far as I got, but not exactly riveting.

And "Kavalier and Clay" is indeed pretty slow. It never exactly picks up, but the essay's on comic history do slack off a bit.

If you're into comics/hip-hop/punk/brooklyn i highly recommend "Fortress of Solitude"

Just finished a million little pieces. Easy read, good story, and pretty interesting. But goddamn does that man need an editor. I don't care what people say about "style" and "authors choices" consistent repition and going in circles can grate the nerves after a bit. I'd still recommend it though.

Read this again earlier today. A good, quick read, and always rewarding. Also friendly to the brain that is fairly well fogged with cold medicine...

Thanks everyone. I now have a wishlist built up into the 400 dollar range.

heh, i've always loved vonnegut...so no worries. i just wondered...how it was as far a story, i guess. though i suppose that doesn't matter. "breakfast of champions" is excellent, and has one of the crappiest sounding plots ever.

Walking dead and Y the last man = best comics on market right now IMO.
that reminds me that I have been wanting to re-read Preacher for its gorey sadistic goodness.

well it's a story of his life, it's just kurt vonnegut recapping the last i think 86 years of his life and how he went about writing some of his works like Slaughterhouse 5 and his view on politics and such, it was really good, i'm thinking about reading it again pretty soon.

This is a bit of a coincidence, but I got the Lance book for my birthday yesterday and the Dave Mirra book today! Both are inspiring stories about cyclists who overcame crazy obstacles.
The Dave Mirra book is mostly really great BMX pics, but his story is good too.
I can't put down Lance's book. Birthdays Rule!
