You MUST ride with a "bell" or other signaling device here on Longboat Key. Police will write you up as you cross the side streets in front of them. Longboat key has 9 mile extra wide sidewalk with no cross streets. A popular ride for the locals here.

This thread is awesome. I'd always wanted to take off my front derailleur and run a single chainring up front, since I literally never shift up from the 42, but I never knew what to do with the ugly downtube boss it would leave. I modified my bell to cover up that old nasty thing, and turned the 52 chainring into a cool looking bashguard after I put in some time with the grinder and sander, and it looks pretty rad. (I'm running an 8-speed cassette in the back, and use maybe 4 of those cogs on my hilly commute, I know it's retro-grouchy, but bikes generally come with way too many gears.) <-OOPS!, I just noticed this is the SS/FG forum, I guess you guys are pushing me one step closer towards the Dark Side, after all.

Oh man I remember that setup. 9345627% classier than what I got now. Man.
Rivendell had it. But the last ones I've seen from them have been spring ones, which make noise all the ****ing time and are not nearly as badass. |
my bell rocks!
