Who uses bells?
I've got one and attractive people smile when I ring it and
it pisses people off when I call out their mistakes. Really, all of you bell-less people are crazy and giant hipsters. You all represent bikers everywhere and your lack of audible alerts hurts all of us. Singlespeeders with just one bell? Who are you kidding? Pfft...posegneurs. When you are older you will learn to love the incredi-bell. |
My voice can out "auduble alert" your bell any day.
"WATCH THE F**K OUT" works better than "brrrrrrrring brrrrrrrring" |
|
I remember growing up, I had this sweet ass ****ing bike.
It had this big siren set up on the front with a lmicrophone and oud speaker. The f'ing bomb. |
Every time I ride the Brooklyn Bridge BK to Manhattan I swear I'm getting a bell, but I forget it every time I hit Centre street and start dodging cars instead of tourists...
|
I preferr "ping ping" to "brrrrrrrring brrrrrrrring".
I had a bike bullhorn myself. It had a siren and something else and loudspeaker mode. Then one night I had it hanging on my closet doorknob and my mother slammed in the door. Accident, she said. Suuuure, says I. |
man, bells are for kids that don't know how to ride their bikes. if something is in your way, go around it. don't honk at it. you don't like it when cars do it to you. don't do it to people. or cars. and since i hit the t instead of the r at first. cats too. don't do it to cats.

No bell. Surface to air missile.

for folks w/ conversions, there are these great brass bells with an amazing tone that will thread directly into downtube shifter bosses.

on the mup's I just go "ding, ding" as i ride past. people seem to like it. in amsterdam the bike bell seemed indispensible. they are useless with cars. you need a freon honker. eff the ozone layer. most urban fix and ss riders in the US probably spend more time in traffic than mixing with peds. so a bell is of limited value. i put one on my mtb, to alert bears and chipmunks.
|
i use the increddibell jellibell
|
yes yes! where is this fabled down tube bell? i want it, I need it, I asked around at the LBSs, and they think i'm ********.
Oh, MomoVelo, oh, how I miss you. |
well, according to
http://www.stanford.edu/~dru/fixie.html these will thread onto standard downtube bosses: http://www.jitensha.com/eng/bells_e.html as of right now i usually just click my brake lever or yell, but this whole bell on the downtube idea just might be what i'm looking for. |
stickerguy is awesome. always the best topics!
|
It's actually against the law in NYC to ride without a bell. I've gotten several of those tickets over the years.
|
Bells can be pretty awesome.

Nothing helps much when they have headphones stuck in there ears.
|
A bell will cut thru traffic/city noise far better than yelling.
A bell will cut thru headphones better than yelling. A bell is the univeral sound of a bike approaching. Use the bell first when approaching problem areas. yell when closer for specific problems and direction giving. Best is to use a bell where there are lots of peds and combine with yelling as needed. air horn is better.

No clue.
It was the coolest thing ever. It was sort of like this, only all black and neon and 80s. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...k/291600_f.jpg |
