Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I cannot count the number of times that a stranger refers to my bike as "one of those bikes".

So you ride bikes right? Note: this is asked whilst wearing rolled up pants, a messenger bag with a light on the back, and a doofy ass cycling cap (only to cover up the drunk haircut).

You can't coast--you're nuts

the worst is when they look at your seat, give some dumb comment on how much it must hurt to sit on it, then actually put their hand on it to feel it. My butt is on that, taint sweat, nastiness.
so i just smile, nod, and laugh on the inside...where ie counts

that, or i explain it to people, and they're going "yeah, that sounds like fun", and then when i say "there's no coasting", they tell me "oh, well never mind, then".

"nope, all pedaling, all the time."

"and no gears?"

"just one."

"... so, how do you coast?"

are those the pedals that stick to your foot?

but mostly it's about the seat and how uncomfortable it looks.

"Where are your pedals!?!"

I use eggbeaters, so they think it's just an axle sticking out...
