ride to the bottom of the hill, bus on the way up? thats only one bus trip per day (you won't need it going downhill) if there is a bus that would work.

commuting is the best part of my job (around 15 miles each way).

and of course you know <blasphemy> geared bikes work pretty well for climing hills </blasphemy> till you work p the strength to do it fixed.

Terror_in_pink 02-02-06 01:20 PM

i wouldnt even walk up the hill! :D

I sold my road bike before i moved. I think i only rode it maybe 2 or 3 times while i owned it. This probably sounds illogical to most, but i felt safer on a fixed bike than the road bike.

Hills are ok but not when theyre over 6 miles long and gradually go from bad to really really really bad.

I'm on the foothill of a forest. Let's see if i even get/take the job. Althought i think the beater locked up at the statio is the way to go. I think they have bike lockers.

for a second there i'd thought i'd lost you. once you go dork, there's no going back:D best of luck on the job thing though...

now whats in the garage? you get a new toy?

Terror_in_pink 02-02-06 01:24 PM

the segway, of course!

shants 02-02-06 01:25 PM

i cry.

Terror_in_pink 02-02-06 01:26 PM

Not me, i think i'll ride the segway to work. It will only take 3 hours.

matt_savvy 02-02-06 01:32 PM

what's the total distance from home to work? I'd rather ride a hike and a half everyday than go through the double sin of using public transit AND a folding bike....

P.S. is you're stuck using public transit, get a skateboard.

Terror_in_pink 02-02-06 01:43 PM

via freeway it's about 22 miles, i haven't really looked at the distance via street. probably 22-27?

mikorp 02-02-06 01:44 PM

search folding track bikes, use chain tentioners. will be nice. or a skateboard works too.

Doctor Who 02-02-06 01:46 PM

Yeah, a 20 mile commute one-way, isn't bad at all.

Ride there and bring some deodorant. That's all you'll need.

OneTinSloth 02-02-06 01:58 PM

hmm.....certainly you can't ride a road bike, or something with gears that would be more efficient. a road bike will make you stronger and allow you to ride to and from work.

Terror_in_pink 02-02-06 02:02 PM

Justin I sold my Pinarello, don't have a bike with gears anymore.

prodigal son 02-02-06 02:04 PM

Buy another one.

Terror_in_pink 02-02-06 02:06 PM

i think i will, need a job first.

Brian 02-02-06 03:52 PM

Where are you riding from, and where are you riding to?

Terror_in_pink 02-02-06 03:57 PM

are you familiar with LA? Want specific streets?
Im riding from La Crescenta (closer to Tujunga) to Wilshire center

ink1373 02-02-06 03:58 PM

folders rock. lots of really serious world travellers tour on them. if i had the means to fly all over the world and go touring, i'd have a folder.

plus, if you don't think that this is badass, you're blind:

killsurfcity 02-02-06 04:09 PM

yeah, folders are the ****. i'm fixing a raleigh 20" right now for my soon to be extended work commute. sure they look a little funny, but so do most of you. :D

prodigal son 02-02-06 04:12 PM

That would be Studio City to Hollywood, right? Don't know what that would work out to on surface streets, but it would be a long and crappy ride. It's not like you can find streets running along the freeway for the whole route. And you'd stink when you got there. Are you used to LA smog and traffic? I can't even breathe in that skanky air.

Ink- if you have a partner, a coupled tandem is a great way to travel the world.

suzydownstairs 02-02-06 04:34 PM

My mom got me into bikes...so when I left for college she gave me a dahon folding bike that she didn't use...I felt a little rediculous riding it...and it was actually pretty heavy compared to my other bike...So needless to say I didn't use it much either...
But this year she gave me the IRO single speed that she didn't use anymore for my christmas/birthday present!!! amazing

i do. i've never ridden a tandem, but i'm also a staunch minimalist, so owning a bike that can ONLY be ridden when the wife is up for riding as well just won't happen. still trying to convince myself to sell my marinoni track bike. never use it, but i'm attached to it still.

Brian 02-02-06 05:19 PM

We're packing for our move. There are 8 bikes packed into about 10 boxes. I've got a bike for every occasion, except for a proper road bike.

But east-west is less climbing than north-south, right?
