Skidding without clips?
Did anyone else see this kids bike?
he says he learnt to skid and track stand already, he doesn't have brakes or toe clips! how can anyone possibly skid without toe clips/clipless pedals (or back brake)? Sounds like a liar to me, but then again I don't know. |
Knee on handlebar. That's how.
|
strong back leg? makes it a lot harder. bet he can't do skids that make you stop, just long ones leaning all forward(which don't do much good in trafic).
|
Those BMX pedals actually grip really well - I'm going to agree with dudeman that the long ones are what he's doing.
His bullhorns are on upside-down though... |
Hey you can do it. It takes time if you never used them clips and straps .you adapt.
I did in my first 3 years as a messenger. I did also recently when I came back to NY with LOOK cliples but with sneakers. You have to push hard and time your strong leg. I still ride like that but can't skid alot like that because of injury My gear ratio never went over 47x16 any higher than that, well you body will let you know later. Never say, NEVER. I learn that in Cali when I seen a guy take his mountain bike off a cliff in joshua tree and meeting Greg Herbold in 1991 (freaking crazy dude)Former downhill World Champion. S/F, CEYA! |

yeah, we call that the suicide configuration - no brakes, no clips...
Good Luck! |
I learned to skip stop without straps. I would just put my right foot under the pedal and pull up as I unweighted the rear wheel...of course, this was only on my roof and not going fast. I definitely wouldn't try that going fast because it would probably be impossible/result in me busting my ass.

he also says he hasnt had time to flip his handlebars, but he had time to chop them. huh? he chopped them without taking them out of the stem?

Seriously folks, quit hating. The kid is young and having a blast. Give 'em a brake (ha-ha!) |

you take your foot off the top of the pedal and hook your foot on the bottom of the pedal and the top of your shoe. you can skid for ever like this. as for one footed skids.....

mikorp, nice!
Yoshi, alot of guys was doing it at CMWC 13 NYC or atleast trying. S/F, CEYA! |
He uses his super-pasty-white legs to do it. I mean, do you know how much weaker tan legs are?
|
Does no one get sarcasm anymore?
My point was that skidding without clips and straps is like doing a one-footed skid. The OP said that it must be impossible to skid without clips and straps but clearly that is not true. QED. |

why do you need toe clips? i always skid by putting pressure down on my back foot...
|
fyi: that's not the kids legs, that is a mannequin.

p.s. you ride on your roof? hardcore. especially if it's an a-frame house. I dunno, I don't think the handlebars are THAT weird, they would probably be fine for getting your weight forward, just a bit unconventional. I think the big faux pas on that bike that everyone overlooked is the painted headset!! Who DOESN'T own a headset punch and press these days??!? I usually even carry one in my bag, because, well, you never know. |
52x17? Good lord!
|
sounds like the bro needs a brake
