Sloppy - My prints are anywhere from 6-12 colors, $15 is a bit steep.

sloppy robot 02-03-06 12:23 PM

yes it is..its sbetter for those of us that dont have workspace enough for doing that.. ive burned screens with the sun and cheap lights.. it was always a pain

bridgestoneboy 02-03-06 12:24 PM

cutters destroy all...

i heard cs2 has a streamline function.. i havent tried it yet.. but if its the same as the 3rd party plug in someone made.. i wasnt into it.. unfortunately streamline has a distinct style that im kinda into..so i just use classic mode for it and it works fine.. i guess thats assuming you use a mac

MLPROJECT 02-03-06 01:26 PM

the cutters stopped winning little 500 and are no longer a townie team, so i guess they suck.

that $15/screen thing is a ****ing steal! you can't buy equipment and do it that cheap.

--edit: i still use streamline for some applications, but live trace in CS2 is the ****ing **** for clean jobs. way easier to control. i never really learned streamline the 'proper' way so its more of an experimentation thing to get weird effects.

onetwentyeight 02-03-06 01:35 PM

I dunno, I could build an exposure unit for around 400-500. If I do my usual 10 color prints thats only 3-4 prints worth.

can't you buy a large flash unit for ~300?

i mean, for me barely ever doing prints, $15 about what i'd spend on a screen to begin with from ryans.

just saw your site... send me some prints

$15 is dirt cheap. If you walk away with one of their screens for that they must be loosing money, or the screens are small.

$15 just for the service, you provide the screen, is still a deal. It costs me more per screen (18x20) and I own the place. Just wanted to make sure this misinformation traveled no further. You should tell all where this place is, for reference.

ah.. i need to get cs2.. youre right about streamline.. i love it for drawings.. gives it its own style.. but i was trying to rip off a ciocc logo yesterday and it couldnt pull it off..

im guessing the dude who makes prints in in school? cause yea.. 15 for a burned screen with screen included is a cheap as it gets over here..

MLPROJECT 02-03-06 01:44 PM

if its a simpler logo, just trace it or look on web.brandsoftheworld.com

if you're at school, you have all that equipment at your disposal that makes it faster, easier, thus cheaper. w/o equipment that is a ****in steal.

screen depot on main st in downtown l.a... all they do is screens.. they make them there.. i believe the frames too.. but maybe not..i get 13x16 innside dimension screens.. they might be 18 bucks.... its super cheap whatever it is.. i just do a few at a time and pay whatever it is.. i hear if you supply them a disc instead of film its way more expensive and thats where they make a lot of their money

the_loin 02-03-06 01:48 PM

onetwentyeight, I like your site, nice stuff.

onetwentyeight 02-03-06 01:48 PM

What are you doing that costs so much? A gallon of qtx is 50 bucks, once you have the unit all you have to do is turn on the vacuum and flick a switch.

rereading: oh. 15 includes the screen itself? never mind. That is cheap.

lion - thanks!

the key words.. "once you have da unit"

MLPROJECT 02-03-06 01:52 PM

yes a vacuum unit is buku dolores

onetwentyeight 02-03-06 01:53 PM

man im totally building an exposure unit now. money is in the BANK.

hehe. really the most expensive part of building your own exposure unit is the big sheet of rubber.

You need to buy a screen. Of course it costs next to nothing when you have screens to use that are already paid for. Am I missing something, or do you have some great hook for screens real cheap?

it's loin, not lion, common mistake, derived from tenderloin, a neighborhood in SF.

sloppy robot 02-03-06 01:55 PM

i think thats cool youre doing that.. i guess my other factor is i have no interest in doing my own exposures.. i like printing out the art and dropping it off..picking it up the next day and its perfect.
