New Pictures up at IRO!

For all you IRO freaks take a peep, https://www.irocycle.com/complete_bikes.html Tony's got new pics up.

For some reason they used really small frames for the pictures. I can understand wanting to use a consistent size, but I would think they'd go in the middle rather than at 1 extreme. The Angus looks nice. I think the 90º Nitto Dynamic stem looks a bit odd though especially on that tiny frame. Bars are level with the seat? Maybe he's looking to tap into some of those MAD Rivendell $s

Those pictures are hideous. I really had to try hard to imagine the angus looking nice as a complete build before i bought it, because those pictures are really awful. My bike looks excellent, but those pics look messed up.

the quickbeam and the angus aren't track bikes...

fixed gear doesn't have to mean racey...
there's plenty of people who commute or (golly!) ride for fun on fixies...
matter of fact there's a good chunk of people who can't ride comfortably with handle bars that are lower than the seat, and yes, some of them enjoy riding fixed...

my question is this: as far as I can tell, the jamie roy only comes in one color, and the *NEW* picture shows it in white. it definetely arrived at my house in silver. ??

agreed on the angus. he has a knack for putting together ugly buildups. He was shocked over the phone as I was pushing for a stem that would have a negative drop. and that camo bar wrap that came with my b123's made me laugh. oh well, great guy, great company. whatcha gonna do?

From IRO's site: "This bike is at home at the track or on the street. The frame is designed to accept up to 700X28C tires. The If you are looking for a practical path into an exciting part of fixed gear cycling on the track or off. This is the perfect bicycle for you. "

True it's not a pure Track bike, but it's not being marketed as a commuter, and without any cable or water bottle braze-ons, or any rear brake drilling I would say it's leaning more towards track than any other IRO model. I know bar height is a matter of personal preference, but you don't have to be a racer or a racer wannna be to prefer your bars below your seat.

Those are marketing pictures, or they are supposed to be, so I just have to wonder about the marketing value of high bars, and a 90º stem on a bike that is marketed as "street or track"

P.S. I never used the Q-word

The old angus picture was ugly too. That technomic stem is designed for a niche in the market that the MAJORITY of roadies don't fall into, as well as a part of the market that most people on fixed gears don't fall into.

When I look at those pictures the bikes look out of adjustment. He just needs to level the bars and seat as well as raise the seatpost a few inches. Most people cannot ride with the seat that low unless they are somewhat short or have short legs, anyway. He should be studying Trek's website if he wants to publish photos that sell bikes.

Well, Trek is the most popular company as far as I can tell. All of their road bikes look ready to race, not ready to ease your back pain. Just an observation.

As long as we are talking about stems what are the big difference between the Technomic and Dynamic Nitto? Not a lot of info on his site, but I am going to use it with the b123 bars.

The technomic is a really really tall stem, designed to ease hurting backs. The Dynamic is the stem pictured. The technomic is level with the top tube. Scroll down for a description of the Technomic as well as a picture:

I've raced on bikes w/ technomic stems and hbars almost at saddle height. Doesn't have to be an either/or thing. Sometimes it's just about a proper fit.

The purpose of my posts were to point out that the pictures were not exactly the most flattering shots of the bikes. I am not arguing whether you should use or should not use the setup he has on the website. Aesthetically, the pictures are not pleasing. The ride might be just right for you, who knows.

Look at those bikes and tell me that they do not scream out for adjustment. Most people, I don't care whether you are riding a Jaguar or a Technomic, with B123s or ergo road bars, do not slant their bars like they are in the Angus pic. Most people do not (and if they do, should not) ride with their seats tilted forward. I am not saying that he should put Keirin grips on all the bikes and use the Jag stem and stick random art school abstract art in the spokes.

I'm completely aware that bar height is a matter of personal preference, and fit, and that there is no technical reason a 90º stem is inferior to a 70º stem. Sadly that pic just looks off to me. It's a perfectly nice frame, but the way the parts are hanging off it make it look blechy

IRO is a small company and I think we armchair marketing consultants are reading way too much into this. They seem to have a good reputation among folks like us and I hope they continue to earn it. I will take that over purty pictures any day.

Yer right marketing schmarketing. My whole reason for starting this thread was to say "Oooh look new pics!". Building suspense while I wait for them to reopen like day before christmas.

It just so happened that my favorite bike, and least favorite photo were the same, which got me started on the whole "what's up with that fugly stem" which steam-rollered into a debate about wether old people can still be sexy.

Sorry that's not what this was supposed to be about. Hey look new pictures! ...except the site is down now. Might just have to wait 'til tomorrow when the IRO frenzy will begin anew.

I wasn't sexy when I was young. I see no reason for that to have changed in the intervening years.

Well...fwiw the site is up again.

They've got their own brand of polished aluminum rims. Are those new?

I'm thinking about nixing the new frame idea and just buying a new wheelset to replace my Suzue Jr / Alex set from a couple years ago.
