Fukaya information??

So, anyone here have any info on the Japanese brand FUKAYA? I'm pretty sure they're a distributor of a whole bunch of things.

Anyone know who made these bike?

I just got one and goddamn it, it's beautiful. Pictures in the next few days. It's amazing bike and an amazing build. Very, very light.

I, Mr. Aluminum, just got a ***** over Japanese steel.

climbo 02-07-06 09:44 PM

trons 02-07-06 10:27 PM

the one on cl?!?!?! that one was sweet.

teadoggg 02-07-06 10:36 PM

dude, you won't believe how good a deal it was. The frame (sparkly blue, immaculate w/chrome, custom cut shimano ends, Cinilli BB shell BEAUTIFUL Bocama lugs. Old school Dura Ace headset NJS, Super Mighty Cranks NJS, Stainless DID chain NJS, Aluminum DA cog, SuginoBB, Nitto Aluminum track stem NJS, Sakae Royal Bars, sweet old school DA hubs laced to Super Champion Record du monde, Sugino Mighty seatpost... it's amazing amazing amazing. I talked to the guy for about an hour. he spec'ed it out himself rode it 5 times on a Japanese Velo, and about 500 miles on an indoor trainer. There's not a single mark anywhere on the frame or any of the parts, it looks like NOS. He's going to japan in a month for a while and we talked about the crazy prices all the NJS stuff is going for on e-bay and I told him what to look for and bring back (Nagasawa, 3Rensho, etc).

Super friendly guy. He almost changed his mind about selling it while were were talking, but I promised him tthat I would take good care of it and meet him up at the velodrome here and let him ride it again in the spring.

Yeah, honestly I felt a little bad for the guy.

Then again, I don't feel that bad because I will ride the crap out of that bike at the Velo. I promised him I'd send him pictures of me kicking ass on the bike.

PS, the 55cm fits *perfectly*.

No no no this means that there's some sort of weird paradigm shift going on (think about it, he gets this bike, I get the Erba, and we're both Al disciples). This is your cue to get a carbon or Al bike, mr steel man.

teadoggg 02-08-06 08:31 AM

hahaha, I'd love to see [165] roll up to the velo on a carbon track frame.

Well, I'd love to ride that fancy new Don Walker frame of mine, but alas - there's no fork. So in the meantime, I'm going to tear it up with this bike. =)

Your scotch will be in the mail hopefully on Friday. I'm running behind.

moki 02-08-06 08:45 AM

That's got to be one of the sickest bikes I've ever seen. Need pics! Can't believe you almost blew the deal... NEVER talk about insane ebay prices with a potential seller. Going blind with jealousy here. FUK A YA

oh no no, I didn't almost blow the deal - we're talking before he even let me in his house he was reconsidering. I told him I did just drive 30 miles from the city to see this, at least let me look at it. I made it a point to hand him the wad of hundreds early on - once they were in his hand, his nostalgia was slightly subdued.

chicagoamdream 02-08-06 09:09 AM

Ah, someone took the bike off of Osaka's hands...I was very tempted to pick it up at that price, although it never woulda fit me. Congrats...your cup runneth over.

moki 02-08-06 09:15 AM

Nicely done.

The ad is still up on craigslist. Either the seller likes the attention, or chicago heads are SLEEPING on this one. Maybe their wigs are obscuring their vision.

If you fall out of love with Miss Fukaya, you know where to send her.

shants 02-08-06 09:16 AM

i almost bought it and had him ship the ****er, but i just bought a bridgestone.

teadoggg 02-08-06 09:23 AM

I think part of the problem was it was listed "PURE TRACK RACER" on the craigslist ad - not a very descriptive title. I missed it, initially - I believe shants was the one to point it out to me. I asked him and he said a few people called him, but not very many. It would have gone for a ton of money on e-bay, even without the NJS certification on the frame.

giboyeux 02-08-06 09:26 AM

I saw it pretty soon after it came up, but it's too big. If I was savvier, I guess, I would have bought it and flipped it on eBay.

You may not have been able to get away with it. He was very careful to make sure I promosed that I wouldn't flip it, and I wouldn't "messenger" on it. He was very stern - "YOU'RE NOT A MESSENGER, RIGHT? I DON'T WANT THIS BIKE USED BY A MESSENGER. THIS BIKE IS IMPORTANT TO ME".

I felt like I was taking his kid.

Hahahahaha!

It's like the time I bought a Gibson Country Western and the guy was like, "you're not a hipster who likes country music in an ironic way, are you?"

now THAT is awesome. I love it when people screen their potential buyers. You know you're getting a good item if they do.

It's very satisfying knowing that I'm the 2nd owner of this bike and know exactly where it's been and how it's been used for the past 25 years.

Oh, and I forgot to mention this. The guy was AMAZED that people were "stupid" enough to spend as much money as they are on bikes the NJS bikes that are used by keirin racers - he said it doesnt' make sence - these bikes are raced hard by guys that are strong enough to almost pull them apart, crashed, and generally thrashed around.

moki 02-08-06 11:33 AM

You gotta love the old guys and their lovely pampered babies.

A shop owner near me has a custom Pogliaghi frame hanging on his wall. A real one from the 60's built by the Saint himself. I think he'll be cremated with the thing. I'm thinking break and enter.

A guy in toronto has a mint, nervex lugged half-chromed Bob Jackson also from the 60's with airlite hubs. Also hanging on his wall, 10 feet off the ground. After talking with him for 30 minutes, he told me that he had a Mariposa touring frame in his basement that I might like. It's now sitting in my living room, waiting for a repaint and some shoes. The big plan is to ride it to toronto, show up on the the guy's doorstep, and angle for the jackson. Then part it out on ebay. kidding.

So is the Fuk-Yeah gonna see any street action, or is it strictly for the track?

We'll just have to wait and see. Probably a little street, and mostly track. Or the Lake Front Path. It's the "weekend" bike.

I should make the "No Messenger" rule one of my rules before I sell a bike. It might solve some problems.

okay, here are some really bad photos. But until it's nice outside, or I can get into a studio, these will have to do. They don't do the frame justice, not even close.

Joe Dog 02-08-06 09:38 PM

You are a lucky Dogg, Teadogg. I tried to research this a little bit for you and loaded a translator into my browser, but all I came up was a great description of "Davos" bicycles on the Fukaya website. It's not relevant, but it makes me want one. Here is the description:

"As for the Davos, quantities which the adult can enjoy the few bicycle.
The atmosphere which was suited for cycling, settles.
Also color order to be possible freely, also the variation is abundant.
To adult of genuine favoritism!"

Sorry I could not give you any more on Fukaya.
