Well, the consensus with the other mods is to keep that thread closed. Closed it shall remain, especially since not one person here's bothered to show me that there's a modicum of understanding about what happened with that thread, and clearly, there doesn't seem to be any movement towards compliance or acceptance of what I stated in the other thread.

I was watching the thread when this happened and, although I'm not the most perceptive person, I do think I know what happened: (i) you were clarifying the rules; (ii) Ceya thought you were changing the rules; (iii) Ceya reacted strongly; (iv) another (new) member demonstrated that he didn't understand the rule as you had just clarified it; and (v) you shut down the thread. Unless there was something communicated by PM that I don't know about, that was about it.

I actually asked a question about your clarification (which went unanswered) and I didn't protest the rule or otherwise indicate that I didn't accept it. For what it's worth, I've noticed a lot of members policing that thread by telling those who post their own items to delete the posts. Honest. And it hasn't been clear to me that there was anything wrong with posting some other BF member's item. Now, though, that is clear. I suppose you would also like us not to acknowledge that an anonymous eBay/craigslist item posted to the thread is actually being sold by us or by other BF members known to us.

I don't think I've violated those rules in the past, but if I did it wasn't done intentionally. As I said, I didn't realize these were the rules, but I can accept them.

OK, can we get back to it?

Internet arguments are the jam. Internet arguments about other internet arguments are the ultrajam.

jmgorman 02-12-06 11:26 PM

I guess I just don't understand why the rules are as they are. Maybe I missed this, but why is it a problem if you announce an ebay item there (personally or by proxy). The servers seem to be doing all right after that last upgrade (or whatever) and it is all kept in its own little corner. The thread serves as a great resource for learning about the market and the details of those bikes on the market. Sure it gets a little incestuous sometimes, but that is going to happen when there are only so many bikes out there and when some of them are especially sexxy. No matter what you do, we're all going to know who is selling some of the bikes (like next October when sweet kerin frames start showing up after someone's trip to Japan.)

I guess I just want to know why. As mod, you can just tell me, "because I said so," and that will be fine, because this is your show. But, I'd still like to know and maybe start a discussion that could be taken into account when making rules.

If you want to totally misquote somebody. You are totally free to do so,

If you want help in the future....

On your Kness baby.

Rant deleted from page 1: didn't contribute anything to the forums, didn't serve any purpose. That being said, I enjoy(ed) these forums because they're a place to talk about bikes and shoot the **** with people who share similar interests. Things seem a bit more like a soap opera these days, which is unfortunate.

It's just an internet forum, we're not saving the world - or causing its downfall - here. I hope everyone can keep that in perspective when dealing with conflicts (I say this to myself as well). Anyway, I need a break from this place. Talk to you all later.

I love that I am the one called out for this new change in policy.

I actually sided with the MODS and suggested a 1 sentence change they could make to the first post of the thread, explaining how the thread should work to everyones satisfaction...

I have not sold an item on eBay, CL, or to any member of BikeForums, nor have I EVER listed on of my own items in this thread...have never been asked to do it by a friend either...

I did once question KB about her wanton disregard of another sites terms of service and suggested that she request permission to illegally post it here...

As far as insider moderators, we choose moderators partially based on the number of forums they frequent. Very few members in this forum seem to leave this forum and participate elsewhere. That (in our eyes) would make you less of a valuable contributor as a moderator. There are other attributes we look at, but flexibility and a willingness to frequent other forums and interact with other members is always part of the discussion.

Koffee, have you ever noticed how many long term, respected users have problems with your moderation?

Have you ever noticed how many moderators have problems with you?

Have you ever stopped to consider that perhaps the problem might not be them?

Have you ever?

Wow....when a guy writes his opinions in from the middle of God knows which ocean....its got be for something he believes in. It is a sad day to see Ceya leave. Will, nice to see you post and thanks for the e-mails with all the pictures. I figure now when I get out and have never been to the boat I can at least make my lies more convincing. Take care out there, you're always on my mind friend and I hope to visit you in SD sometime. Stop being such a stranger around here....you are missed, but I'll understand if you can't post that often....you know that whole aircraft carrier in the middle of no where deal.

Yes. No moderators have problems with me. We continue to moderate as a unit and deal with the situations thrown at us daily.

Have fun and be safe at sea.

P.S. It is probably a good idea to read through all the threads thoroughly to have a good understandings of the dynamics of late rather than haphazardly post with little knowledge. Read through all the threads, and if you're still confused, contact Maelstrom so he can spell things out to you more comprehensively.

Ummmm... Ceya hasn't left. He was on as of late last night posting.

It would be wise to always check on things before posting in error.
