What are you drinking?

The incendiary "I'd been drinking..." thread awhile back got me thinking:

Just what IS everyone drinking?

When I can afford it, I prefer:
BEER: Lagunitas IPA, or anything with mass hops and a high alc.%
WINE: Black Mountain, just cuz the name is badass
BOOZE: some good Scotch, like Laphroig, it's like a peat fire in yer mouth

When I'm broke:
BEER: Ballantine's 40s
WINE: Charles Shaw, what else? Carlo Ross, I guess...
BOOZE: White Horse Scotch

Bottoms up!

Alexi 02-16-06 07:50 PM

lime coke...

lanman 02-16-06 07:51 PM

At the moment...Harpoon UFO. Gotta love it

skanking biker 02-16-06 07:54 PM

Beer: New Castle or Smiddicks
Booze: Bourbon Manhattan or brandy old fashioned
WIne: Anything but the kangaroo crap
Right now: Hot tea and korbel brandy

Nachoman 02-16-06 07:58 PM

Tecate. (but too lazy to throw in a twist of lime).

pigmode 02-16-06 07:59 PM

Crown Royal or Jade "Suisse Verte" Absinthe. Corona.

I like a lot of hops myself. If I have the dough I generally go for a good stout, brown ale, or barley wine. I just had a Goose Island IPA which was alright, but I like their Oatmeal Stout a lot more. Left Hand makes a wicked good Milk Stout, and Sammy Smith's Oatmeal Stout is heaven. As far as barley wines go I really like Old Guardian, which is Stone's. There's another one I tried recently that I liked a lot too, but I can't recall the name. For brown ale Brooklyn Brewery is pretty good, but there are a lot more. I just learned that Brooklyn Brewery is 100% solar powered too. I think that is really cool.

If I'm short on cash or I want quantity over quality I'll usually go for Pabst, Milwaukee's Best Ice, or some gin and tonic with lime.

spider-man 02-16-06 08:02 PM

Judah 02-16-06 08:04 PM

sierra nevada's ipa is better than goose island's. IMO. a local bar has Centennial IPA on tap, which is really good. also 750 mL bottles of Affligem that are ~8%. the $/alc ratio is about the same as PBR.

i used to drink pbr, but then i figured out i can get the same pint with twice as much alcohol for twice the price and get twice the taste. SCORE!!

matthavener 02-16-06 08:08 PM

cheap:
beer: red dog, nat lite
booze: cheapest vodka with coke/juice/whatever

splurge:
beer: sierra nevada pale ale

Ken Wind 02-16-06 08:11 PM

Oooh ooh, I almost forgot about that Gonzo Imperial Stout that Flying Dog has (or was that just a one time thing in memory of Hunter S.). Speaking of dogs, Old Leghumper is pretty good too.

brooklyn is not bad :) but they support a proposal to build a stadium in the middle of brooklyn which is not cool with lots of people who leave here. :(
I drink(right now) 1 pint 8oz heinekens and becks from a deli downsairs for $2.50.Since 1991 that price went up from $2.25. Damn inflation :D

in general:

beer: belgian, english, american, german (though i had a very good polish beer with dinner)

wine: french, spanish, italian (lots of leeway here too, but that's the gist)

in the fridge:

la fin du monde

maudite

Ommegang Hennepin belgian ale (this is in my fridge 100% of the time, partly because it's so damn good, and partly because it's at C-Town across the street)

St. Peter's english ale

brooklyn pilsener

and currently drinking: St. Peter's golden ale. it's fantastic.

I'm sorry, but that is a REALLY disturbing picture. Look like a bunch of "funboys" who shoud "get a room." (beeeeep, cybertron)

I drink a lot of PBR and MGD. When I go to bars I drink Guiness.
When I drink wine I buy the second cheapest bottle, or I rock the Rossi-posse.
Liquor is nasty most times, but I have been known to enjoy some very high-end russian vodka.

marcelinyc 02-16-06 09:06 PM

wow, this thread has the best views to posts ratio i have ever seen :)

astrx 02-16-06 09:07 PM

beer: guinness. or john harvards espresso stout...
wine: two buck chucker, or some organic cab depending on how much is in the pocket and the bank
the hard stuff: tuaca for the flask, grand marnier for the snifter, bailey's for the mass appeal
also, a good CAO cigar if your into that sort of thing
and AKA47 and snow white, if your into THAT sort of thing
