Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: 74 paramount track, 80s maruishi track, 70s chesini track.

the one time i rode in it, when i had so much fun going through the tunnel repeatedly, was an effective one because there was a purpose other than blocking traffic for arbitrary reasons... we had a route that stopped at all of those hotels that had protesting laborers. we'd stop and shout with them for a bit, then continue to the next one. that was a purposeful trip, in that it supported a cause with a big big big number of people.

as for tieing up the broadway tunnel for an hour for no reason... maybe there is "no reason" for the group to do it, but there is a personal reason for me as an individual rider --- it feels nice. riding through a tunnel that you usually cant ride through ever, without fear of cars, and with nice flat long stretches, its a great feeling. that's all. pleasurable riding.
