Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Is it P.C. to critisise a sponsor of a race you plan on doing?

Who cares.

Lay off the WIG guys, they seem to be pretty good people and they were the first to reply to my request for sponsors, I have nothing against them and look foward to meeting them. [edit] there are alot of "them"s and "they"s in that post [edit 2]and that is just a tentative sponsor list, I am working on a few more as well.

Come on, dude. don't be a dick. those WIG things are pretty cool. I don't understand the reflectors that hang, but the lock covers are the ****. Their site sucks pretty hard, though.

yes, those same stupid people who make a really sweet chainskin.
Here's a thought: the more people *****, the less sponsors will pitch it. Just a thought.

Until you can secure something more "worthy" in your eyes, you might want to mumble your comments as an aside.

I made a whole thread about my distaste for WIG (edit: their reflectors. I'll give them good credit for the chain skins). It's no secret.

All that aside, this looks like a hot time.

great job cardstock, I'll be there too.

EDIT: I don't think the opinion of one guy will deter a sponsor. Unless they're sensitive pantywaists whose feelings bruise easily.

No, I know everything will be all good, I kind of just felt if the company happens upon the thread, the person asking for donations better say something in support. All is well, no hard feelings. I am really looking foward to this and am very happy that everyone else seems to be now as well!

I've never done a quarter mile sprint before. Would I want more gear inches for a faster top speed, or lower inches for quicker start? What do people do?

more gear inches, especially if it's flat. there's plenty of time to get to speed.

A quarter mile is almost exactly 400 meters. If I double my 200m sprint time, I should be able to complete this course in 28.4 seconds runing 48x15.

I'll have to go check it out.

Ben, are there any intersections or the like that have to be crossed, or is it a straight path. I really don't like the idea of sprinting into a wall of crossing traffic.

one intersection west of 18th, and then the end intersection. Aside from that, it is all under the trainbridges if I remember correctly. Damen and 18th was also one of the endpoints for the Cuttin' Crew Classic 2nd Annual race - the kick off TT.

that is right, you will cross 18th on the green, then there is 17th right before the bridge. Then the finish line is at 14th and Damen. There will be people helping me out making sure that cars wont be jumping out into the intersections. Also, there is a tiny downslope to go under the bridge.........might help some people out. And one last thing. i am going to go there the night before and circle all the man hole covers and such with bright spray paint and a V leading up to them, kinda like this <o, so everyone can keep their heads down. and the morning of I am going to sweep it a bit. Yes!

sweeping a bit is an understatement. i'll help you out. that stretch of road is a mine field of broken bottles. or at least it was the last time i was there. and the smell of piss mixed with exhaust hangs heavy in the air.
