Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: Public D8, Yuba Mundo (cargo), Novara Buzz (1-speed, soon to be 2-speed w/ a kickback hub), Xootr 1-speed folder

BMX quill stems also frequently come in various smaller diameters. I had an old Ross 3-speed frame that needed an annoyingly narrow quill, and a BMX one ended up doing the job. Of course, then you need to deal with the fact that most BMX bars have a narrower diameter, so the clamp may not work with the bars you had in mind. Life is a great mystery.

Bikes: Lots. Mostly steel. Mostly heavy. Mostly geared, and very low, at that.

He's talking about the diameter of the quill, not the length.

If you do as you suggest, it makes the bike ride TOTALLY differently, and not in a good way.

Alright this is a year and a half old thread. But is there a threaded to threadless stem adapter for the "smaller than 1" heasets"

I heard they make "smaller than 1" " stem adapters (21.2mm right?) so then i could put a threadless stem on it.

make sense? let me know where/how i should google search for it.

ps- I also heard changing out my headset to a 1" headset would work... but then i thought about it and realized that the fork would NOT fit this 1"headset as it is smaller than 1". Or am i lost here?
