in this book about bikin' that if you're a relatively hardcore cyclist and your husband/wife/girlfrind/boyfriend etc. isn't and they start to resent all the time on the bike and the constant talkin' about bikes and lookin' at bikes and all and they get all twitchy about it and maybe even lay down an ultimatum that, in that case, you're most likely to choose the bike over the relationship. i guess runnin' would be the same (except it doesn't take as much time in general).
how 'bout it? would ya choose the bike?

I learned this in sunday school -
2 Corinthians 6:14: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
I think it applies here

i'd totaly choose the ride, how else would i get to work? i wouldn't want to be with a girl who would make me choose and who wouldn't understand. i don't really like the idea of a girl who doesn't ride either, but that's another story..... they'll learn, the day will come.... muhahaha

I had a girlfriend once who was a runner. She spent all her money on running shoes. The fridge was filled with sports bras, and running socks. All she ever wanted to talk about was running shoes, and how far she'd run today. She was always off running, and when she came back from running she'd be all sweaty, and when we were in bed together it was like she was running a marathon...

And the problem would be?

Bikes: yes please.
keeping bike talk down around the non-bike person is one thing, but lessening your riding for someone else's jealous insecurities is unacceptable. my friend's girlfriend gets so butt hurt about his riding. of course, she's insanely jealous and insecure about herself and thus has to make it his burden instead of dealing with her self esteem herself. i suggested stuffing her in a matress and sending it down the river, but he hasn't found a good one yet.

michele is really cool about my cycling fixation. she loves to ride too but has been a bit sketched out about riding at night since getting hit. she's totally supportive but i think she's a bit worried i'll be buying another frame soon. after buying the reminton, any time she sees me look at frames or on ebay she panics a bit. haha. when i got the reminton though and mentioned giving the benotto to a friend to make room she wouldn't let me cause she said it was "my baby." she's awesome.
but yeah, i definitely try to balance time spent with her a riding. it's rough some times because of all the awesome riding stuff and group stuff happening in NYC... but she's cool about it. i've been prepping her for not seeing me much this weekend.

That's funny, I have the opposite situation. My wife recently told me that I'm too cheap and don't indulge my interests enough, so she's saving up to buy me a spankin' new track bike for my birthday.
Yep, she's a keeper.

Yeah, I get hassled all the time for my obsession. Now I work around bikes all the time, and she cant get mad at me cause its my JOB. She did, however, let my spend 600 bucks on a bike last night, so im not complaining. haha... I tried to justify it to her a business expense. It didnt really work, but she understands that this stuff makes me happy. Shes got 2 bikes herself, and doesnt seem to mind riding, but I have a hard time convincing her to go on long fun rides. Maybe once it gets a little warmer.

My lady is a runner, and I am partially converted from running to biking. Sometimes, she does get a little ticked off about how much time and money I spend on bikes. But when she does, I point out how some of my friends are this way with cars...
