Ok...I've been reading this and now I'm kind of confused. "One of our own"? "Solidarity"? He's not one of my friends. Just because a guy rides a fixed gear bike, it doesn't make him someone I'm automatically close to. I don't have any solidarity for nissan drivers becuase I drive one...I understand what bikers go through but to assume that I should automatically side with someone becuase they ride a bike is rediculous.

rancid - well said. i went back and read a few of the posts on brandie's myspace. just puts everything back into perspective. that easily could have been the fate of torrin. he's lucky to be alive, period.
any mistakes that he made pail in comparison to the sheer malice that the driver showed. arrigoni tried to cover himself up as well. in the article he says he left because he wanted to report the incident to the police. that's a total lie and absolute bull****. he left because he was a coward and didn't want to deal with what he had done. he thought it better to leave someone to die.

just let this die already. please. please please please. let it die. what more do you people want than a public apology. thats it. thats the end. no more goddam debate. he did something he shouldnt have, and last i checked you dont get a do-over, you can only deal with the consequences. what do you think should happen to him? what is a just punishment for this great betrayal? hes ****ing blind. i dont think a day will go by that he doesnt think about what happened. just leave it alone. for the love of god.

If I'm not mistaken the person you are refering to his the original poster...if he didn't want to start this debate he shouldn't have started this thread...you reap what you sow.

"The life of a partially sighted person is not easy. Very few people understand visual impairment, and even fewer understand partial sight. For instance, a close friend of mine has diabetic retinopathy. This condition has left him with a small spot of central vision, and no peripheral sight. Because of this, he must use a mobility aid (a “blind stick”). However, with his central vision, he is able to read things such as traffic signs and food containers. He is harassed, frequently aggressively, on a daily basis by people who don’t comprehend his situation."
This is what struck me most about Torin's post. I think very few of you understand what it means to have a severe, yet partial, sensory impaiment. I'm not saying I completely understand his situation, but believe me, people are often completely mis-understanding of someone with a sensory deficiet.
I have lived my entire life as a partially deaf person. It creates social chasms, and is difficult for those around you to understand, especially strangers. At times, it is frustrating and limiting; in ideal situations, you can deal with it... unfortunately, few people understand this. It can be a frightening thing to deal with, and although my impairment is from birth, it's still hard to deal with at times. I can't imagine what it is like to have something like this dropped on you suddenly. Probably far worse. At least I'm used to it, and can cope to an extent. I avoid certain situations like the plauge, simply because my hearing really doesn't permit it.
Cut the guy a break, and accept that this whole thing is prolly pretty damn confusing to him at best. Don't think it could be any other way.

god help me for chiming in here, but you are talking about two entirely different things. One side is talking about consequences of actions (or inactions) with a sub-element of ethical compassing and the other the severity of a medical condition. Two different things.
Veracity you can sort of debate (but its gamesmanship because only one person knows the real truth) but you can't logically pitch both sides against one another - so lacking common ground in the debate you throw out mutual accusations of lack of knowledge.
What my point is here, I don't know. Challenge your own assumptions or something like that. It's time better spent.

And when did you find the time to get a ****ing PhD in logic?
But seriously Pope, you've summed up all this hot air pretty well.
Except that there's more than one person who knows the real truth... There's also a dog.
And maybe a UC opthalmologist.

Some of us have been rooting for you ever since "MR. Connections" assaulted you with a deadly weapon. If you stretched the truth a little, or even outright lied, about your level of sight, it doesn't matter to me, I might've done the same in your shoes, and I don't feel qualified to judge you, as some others apparently do. All I know is, the guy who attacked you still has not had his comeuppance, and that I am still pulling for you, and hope you get to see justice served. I hope I am able to handle a ****storm like this with half the grace you have if I'm ever in your shoes.

Bikes: Lots. Mostly steel. Mostly heavy. Mostly geared, and very low, at that.
