i'll check the phonebook when i get there - oldschool style.

i'd say "have fun in the rain..." and sneer, but la is totally all sf'ed out apparently. rain clouds follow me. gee wizz.

this is so hardcore. today i put all of my leg strength, all of my endurance, everything i had into that quarter mile sprint. and i probably topped out at 30mph or something. i suck!

from eyeing it, i think it's safe to say the chainrings are okay. but that's scary.

checked the chain ring bolts, they are fine. not sure about the bottom bracket because i don't even know how to f with that s... like i said i haven't even gotten the cranks off yet.

for this and the post asking if they gave it a tune-up at the shop where i bought it, the simple answer is 'no.' i bought it on like december 2nd, haven't had it in a shop since mid-december. it's an 06 fuji track, so it was relatively new when i bought it... but i hear fuji factory parts aren't the best thing in the world. i've heard scary stories about their lockrings and/or spokes stripping out on their back wheels, . that was my first thought today, and i first heard the sound while sprinting, so it's safe to say i spent a short moment scared ****less. anyway. it's got rpm cranks, fuji wheel.

the cranks have square spaces underneath where i took the bolts off, so i'm assuming the bottom bracket taper is square as well. but i still haven't gotten the cranks off, so i wouldn't know! anyway, cracks sound scary (( i don't have any money and can't imagine going more than 48 hours without riding my bicycle. i might lose it.

new theory: i actually noticed while moving my bike around a second ago that my SEAT made a creaky noise! i'm hoping it's that, but i'm still sketched about the way the cranks look. not to mention having a creaky seat... wtf?

on that note, my bars also creak. they are some random no name chrome chopped drops i got on ebay for a few dollars because they were already chopped and i'm lazy. ever since i first put them on, they've creaked when i put weight on the front of them. i've tried all manner of loosening and tightening the stem bolts, to no avail. it does it all the time, and it's annoying as hell. suggestions?

god damn i can't wait to build my own bike from the ground up... partially so i don't have any more of these stupid questions, and mostly so that i know it's dependable. sigh, to have a half a grand fall in my lap...

dammit! stupid seat. that's what it was for me too. like a million times. we always think its the most complicated problem involving bottom brackets and tapers and its as simple as right under our dumb-lazy-assses.

check your bottombracket/cranks anyhow. take it all apart and get to know it. its fun

as for your bars: tighten stem in both places then if still creaking - have fun with the headset!

Get better bars I think it might be just the metal flexing. Do they bend a little when you put all your weight down on them?

edit: stem might be flexy too. I used to have a cheap modolo stem to some flexy aluminum bullhorns that were similar in stiffness to a large rubber band. if i put all my weight down on them they would flex about 1/2 - 3/4 inch. they were noisy. Then again on that bike the headset was garbage too.

and building bikes up from scratch is lots of fun. Took me 4 months to afford all the parts though, siiigh.

as i've had pointed out to me, i can't get my cranks off without a crankpuller, and that's one tool i don't have

also, how do i make my seat stfu?

finally, i have tightened and retightened my bars, they still creak incessantly. as for the headset, i'm pretty sure it's fine and that if i put my old fuji drops back on (which i don't like-- those newfangled 'ergonomical' drops are strange), the sound would cease immediately. which leads me to this:

they don't bend or flex under my weight, but i do feel slight vibrations with the creaks on occassion. my bet is that i am in fact riding a ****astic set of bars. i want to get some real bullhorns anyway. gotta start saving up. the only thing about these chops is that i've become attached to them; they were my first ever tape job and i'm actually pretty proud of it:

this image is huge, but i'm too lazy to resize and reupload. so yeah. that's my bars when i first taped them. man, the brake looks weird now. i finally took it off a few weeks ago after i hadn't touched it once since the week that i got it. i was keeping it around as a safety measure, but i've started skipping and stuff like that so i don't really feel that it's ever going to do me any good. if anything i probably would've just ended up going over the handlebars. so anyway. yeah. that's them.

Now that I see the bike maybe the noise arent the cranks... maybe are the pedals, a bb cup, or the stem/handlebar. Unless he heard that thing all the time. and if thats the case I dont think are the cranks at all or a BB cup. Usually cranks are noisy when u go over the pedals and only in one position, when seated they dont do any noise. The stem/handlebar do noises time to time if isnt tighten enough. It could be an spoke. Did u check the spokes in the rear wheel?
