Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

boo to knee injuries!

so, i've got a sprained knee (making it near impossible to skid or backpedal) & i'm forced out of work for a few days (not of my choosing!) anybody got any tried & true tricks for a quicker recovery?

i recently had knww surgery--i find using a bike at the gym with really low resistance helps my knee feel better.

oooh knee surgery is the worst (i hear.) i'm sorta glad i'm sitting the rest of the week out, because i'm riding brakeless; making it very easy to get to that point. thanks for the tip!

lower your gear and put a brake on when you get back on the bike. i'm not expert in knee pain (not having had much), but if i were in your position, i'd play it really safe when getting back on. lower gear, brake, and don't spend every second of riding hammering away.

what sucks most is it was my right knee, which i primarily use for stopping----i've been using the brake a lot more as i'm afraid i will tear it again if i try to skid or even use backpressure with that leg. I'm up to doing a 45 min ride--after that my knee is killing me.

I pushed myself too hard after a knee injury when I was 15. It ended up with me needing surgury (eventually-I haven't had it yet 11 years later) and 6 months off it.
