idiot, meet wheelbuilding

ok, so i'm diving head first into wheel building. going for the cheapest parts I can find so the least amount of money is on the line for the screw-up. the contenders are:

(1) Cheapo Sun rim

(2) Super cheapo Nashbar Hi-Flange front hub

and last but not least

(3) Super cheapo spokes in various sizes

I found all the spoke length calculators and excel sheets, but none seem to address all items listed. After extensive googling and bikeforuming, I found out that the nashbar hubs are not just rebranded formulas as first thought, but are in fact those weird novatec/whatevertheothernameis jawns which don't have very good coverage of size.

Here is the question (at long last). Does anyone have a rim/spoke recommendation for the nashbar hubs that you know works together, or can anyone solve the length issue with the spokes I chose? After 30 minutes of calculations and a million horrible 90's style webpages, I'm about ready to give up.

save me.

Is this a MTB? Cause that appears to be a MTB rim.

HAH. ok. scratch rim link. Definetely don't want ATB. I only picked that one because tthe picture seemed to match the cheap rims i've seen at the lbs. anything below 25 bucks will work for me. i shall commence googling again.

thanks for the catch. *smacks head*

well you can get rhyno-lytes in 700C, but they're wiiiiiiiiiide
for another cheapass Sun Rim alternative get a CR-18.

for the extra $10 over colinm's rim, i think the double walls are worth it

Nice thing is, once you have the calculator, you can pick any old rim you want, find specs, and wa-laa.

Nash had NOS Campy rims, scored a pair, and now have one-of-a-kind Campy/Campy on ze bike.

Watch. Pounce. Build. Pose.

Bikes: Bridgestone RB-T, Soma Rush, Razesa Racer, ⅔ of a 1983 Holdsworth Professional, Nishiki Riviera Winter Bike

those spokes aren't that cheap 11÷$18=61¢ each

you can get double butted DT Swiss spokes from icyclesusa.com for 60¢ each, or straight guage for as little as 25¢ each, and since they are sold individually, you just buy as many as you need.

I only said it cause I dunno how to spell "vogue". Self-built anythings rock. Good luck.

.44 (.396 after coupon!) from Nash, and he'll have 4x extras when done to put on Ebay. Plus convenience of buying the hub and spokes from the same vendor. Or AE may have all three components...AE also does building svcs...but to build yourself = free, plus $15 for a shop to tension and true = bargain, IME.
