28 hole deep v lacing
after some searching in the forum and online, i'm trying to track down a picture of deep v's laced 28. my (old) set from tony were super secure 32 and 36 respectively, and I'm looking to build up this set. can anybody help?
if we are being anal here, its unmachined black 28, but who's keeping tabs :) |
I can take a picture of my front road wheel when I get home. Its laced 2x to an ultegra hub.
|
that would be awesome. thanks man

hmm.. well that sheds a little light, but i'm more specifically interested in the way the deep v's look (i'm aesthetically obsessed). since it's so much closer to the hub, the question is whether it all but eliminates the low spoke count, or if it emphasizes it. i mean, if 28 ain't gonna look different, i might as well go bombproof 36, ya kno?
|
Sorry, I was a bit worthless this afternoon. When I got home from the office I realized the camera was at my desk.
I will get you some pictures tomorrow. |
28h with a Deep V doesn't look much different than a 32h. I have a front 28h and a rear 32h and unless you look closely, its really hard to tell the difference.
|
the pattern is pretty different...I don't think you have to look that close.

check the 28h wheels i built on velospace http://velospace.org/node/289

awesome. thats exactly what i was looking for.
p.s. how do those da hubs ride? any caveat about the radial lacing? |

It looks like some other people have responded with pictures, but I took them so I might as well post them anyway.
Here is a 28 2x wheel: http://www.life.uiuc.edu/~ewmartin/myspace/front1.jpg and http://www.life.uiuc.edu/~ewmartin/myspace/front2.jpg For comparison, here is the rear wheel laced 3x with 32 spokes. I don't think that 28 hole hubs are recommended for 3x lacing- I am not sure why. http://www.life.uiuc.edu/~ewmartin/myspace/rear1.jpg |
thanks for all the help everyone. at this point, i'm about 99% sure i'm going with 28. i'll post pictures when the wheel build is done.

Man I was lacing a set of 32 holes tonight and realized I need a magnezited screwdriver to get the nipples on the spoke. I keep dropping the nipples in rim. Totally annoying
|
You don't need a new tool, just use a spoke.
Thread the spoke into the top of the nipple and then insert into the rim. You can then grap the nipple with your hand and unthread. The nipple is then ready to go. Obviously you can only do this on the final nipple if you have a spare spoke. |
