Sugino Messenger Cranks
Looks like in addition to the chainrings, Sugino is coming out with a Zen Messenger crank, also. Anyone tried it? Looks like the price is going to be around 120 retail, but I may be way off on that.

I have to ask:
Why, in all their good-part-making sensibility did they have to put the "Messenger" on their crap? Yes, I understand the whole "messenger marketability" deal, but come on. Something like "Sugino Zen Sub" or something else. Enough is enough.
It is really ****ing narrowing to put that tag over everything. Why not call it something else? Anything else actually...
inexpensive, sure
cheap, yes

I think its kind of cute that Sugino is trying to be "street" by calling them messenger. I'll let em slide because I bet their marketing department doesn't speak english.
We had a thread about them and the chainring last weekend if you search.

I guess I'll just have to get some and check them out. I haven't found any web info yet, but one of the distros just came out with a new catalog and they're listed (along with 75's in regular (NJS) and black, RD's, and DA.) Seems the distros are catching on to the craze. Tange levin NJS headsets, too...in fact, I think you could build an entire NJS bike (minus frame) out of the catalog of this one small parts distributor.

Man you people are lazy.
Translation of the marketing blurb I posted, courtesy of sikanna...
we are introducing new line for "on road fixed gear bike" users starting with Bike Messanger Line
it is a brother of "zen" line which has proven records among track racers, it has 144 PCD
it was made with super pure duralmin with gold mix, then anodized, but designed with 'Shine Teeth'
(I had to look up duralmin, closest i found was duralumin which is an alu alloy)
comes with teeth count of 42, 43, 44, and 45, and has 1/2X1/8 Chain
since this cainring can be used for track racing sporting, it also can be used for junior racer or on a training bike for elite racers
(please note that this is not NJS certified product, therefore you cannot use this for Keirin sporting event hosted by Japan Bicycle Promotion)
Furthermore, if you purchase this product today, you can cordinate with limited edition Sugino 75 crank (anodized, black, not NJS certified), creating a very simple yet beautiful part for your fixed gear bike.

i dunno, sometimes companies will sell two things that are essentially the same product, but with different names. one is more expensive, because the name and the image and this and that. i don't know if that's the case here. i don't know that much about marketing, i'm just making observations.
