I splurged and ordered a pair tonight

I hope they come soon, I'm exited.

I'm probably never gonna want to take them off.

Just got a pair in XL, they're frickin great. They fit a size 38 waist FYI, very very stretchy. The chamois is pretty thin. Some reflective piping would be a bonus but oh well they'd look funny off the bike like that. Also not too warm, leggings are needed for the cold with these manpris. The Chrome store in SF has a changing room (the bathroom) and while there I got to look into the inner workings of the "factory"...it looks like they're working on a bunch of new stuff back there, much to look forward to.

I bought a pair a while ago and wear them frequently. Only thing for me is that the size medium is ever so slightly large around my waste even though I normally wear a 31-32. A belt is definetely mandatory for these shants.

But you don't even notice that you're wearing anything. They're a great fit in every other way. The pockets rule.

Thanks for the review and photos! I had been considering trying a pair of these, and really like the belt loops. I bought a pair of Prana climbng knickers at a clearance price at REI, and like them (for wear over bike shorts) but miss having real belt loops. I like to wear pouches on the belt to carry stuff.

Ira, what shop in Chicago carries them? I'd like to try some one before purchasing. Otherwise I am waiting for Under The Weather (https://www.under-the-weather.ca) to roll out their 2006 line. I tell ya those Canadians are easy going with their summer gear.

Just a stupid question.
I currently have Under the Weather's stuff. And I like being able to choose my own chamois.
But for the Chrome it already comes with thin layer. Do you have to wear underwear and then put on the shins or do you just wear them bare?

Not at all, but can someone tell me why you would spend $145 on a pair of name brand fashion pants for cycling? (Or for any other reason for that matter?)

Also they are stretchy and sweat wicking without being skin tight like real cycling stuff which some people are uncomfortable wearing.

Are they really needed or just another accessory like NJS parts?

Well I wouldn't want to ride more then a 15 or 20 miles in cut off work pants but then again I also would prefer not to do it with any sort of shant period. If you are really self(or fashion) conscious though I can see them being worth it. I mean people spend more then that on all sorts of worthless crap.

****ing hell, bike-specific clothing is such a rip off for what it is. I'll go down to an army&navy store and get the same thing for 1/3 of the price.

Thanks for the honest answer. It's amazing how fashion conscience people can be.....

Christ everyone seems to love this magical $130 chamois sewn into some $10 shorts. How about buying one of those $2.50 chamois you find at car shows and supergluing it to the inside of some Dickies?

Also, I'm not serious.

It's also amazing how much effort some people put into looking like a bum. Fifteen trips to the thrift store to find just the right ratty pants and such... These people are every bit as fashion conscious as the Chrome/Ralpha/Swobo people - some of them moreso because they spend more energy perfecting their look.

Me... I'm just an middle-aged white guy who stopped caring about what anyone else thought a long time ago. I'll be a true embarassment to my kids one day.

Nothing improves your TV watching experience like wearing your favorite NJS pants and flipping the channels with your Keirin Universal Remote.
