One road bike. One fixed gear bike. Just ordered another fixed gear.

I voted 2 but not because I don't want more. I'd love one for every "need" & then some. Maybe five or so, we'll see. I haven't had a mtn/trail or a geared road bike in awhile. Right now I just have a Bianchi Pista that's been my #1 for 4-5 years & 2 Univegas that are at the beginning & midway through conversion, respectively. They count 1/2 each. One's going to be my basket + fenders hauling stuff around/fun times at the bar bike & the other is probably destined to get sold eventually. They're a good way to practice my wrench skills too. Better than taking apart & putting back together the same bike all the time.

actually, i think that most of us are geeks (apologies to those who don't self-identify that way) and when we get into something, we REALLY get into it. so you have all these nuances that normal humans don't get. most people can't tell the difference between a hybrid, a mountain bike, and a freaky tt bike. we can. we can also tell the difference (and they are different) between english track bikes, italian ones, polish ones, and japanese ones, to name but a few. in addition, we can also tell the difference between modern ones and 'classic' ones, between different construction methods, builders, TUBESETS fer cryin' out loud. so of course we have lots of bikes, there are so many different kinds, and they're all fantastic. |

Okay, but the interesting question is what do I want to build NEXT: 1. geared (somewhat) cyclocross (42 in the front, 11-28 in the back) 2. fixed grass track/path racer (Major Taylor bars, cyclocross tires, Brooks saddle, etc.) 3. singlespeed 29er avec disc brakes (On*One Inbred 29er when they get my size back in stock) 4. GT Pulse w/ new school hotness (steel is real, yes ... but don't hate on aluminum just 'cause) That should keep me busy for awhile. ;) - eyefloater |
Villin touring
Medici Pro-Pista Windsor commuter/drunkbike KHS Alite1000 MTB Funny thing is... the more bikes I buy/build/whatever, the more I love every one of em. Ride the tourer around for awhile, then marvel at the unabashed quickness of the track-- it's an absolute scalpel. Back on the tourer and I'm on the ****ing leather sofa of the B17 looking around at the world, arms wide, breathing easy-- it's the bomber. After all the track and long rides I've done, I've haven't sweated and worked so hard as the mountain bike ride a few weekends back (with guys who went and did another 20 more technical miles, jesus****ingchrist). The commuter/drunkbike is a 42/17 fix'd, Biopace'd, moustache'd, rack'd, basket'd, speedblend'd monstrosity. When I was eleven I'd get bored and bike south and east of my neighborhood (Brandon, FL) to find the huge television antenna towers. It'd take me all day and I couldn't do it enough. Love love love love love bikes. |

Some of us are to lame to be able to do the quick bar and cog change at hellyer for racing..so we get a racing bike and a street bike...then get a chance to get a beatiful street bike and now we have 3 track bikes...tada!!! |
I see. Perhaps its the marriage of bikes and internet forums that draw such a crowd. But dolface, why? I mean three of the same type of bike? I just don't get it. I guess this is my admission to not being a die-hard biker but a regular-type biker. Maybe someday.

Okay, I can explain my arsenal pretty well.
I have my main bike, my Pista. Now, as I upgraded that bike, I collected parts and eventually had enough to build a second bike. Did that, and now the trickle-down process keeps going. The Pista is done, officially. So, now as the Pake upgrades, the Sekine or some new bike will get its parts. All very economical. |
1.5 bikes here. The Erba is the full bike, and the Basso is just a frame and a few parts now that I cannabalized most of it to build the Erba.

Because one bike I can lock and leave it as a commuter, another is strictly for fast pace road, and then there is the trail bike, and then one that can just about anything (riding in the rain, dirt or road).

Cramerotti- road bike for long rides and racing
Elvish- fixed gear conversion for riding around the city and locking up and partying Specialized- Mountain bike for off-roading I still want to have many more bikes |

my quiver seems to fluctuate year by year, but currently:
Rock Lobster custom track Langster (not stock) track LOOK road Ventana single speed mountain Lemond cyclocross Specialized touring bike (for wet weather commuting) Don't even get me started on the spare wheels, forks, bars, etc... I've always considered selling some stuff, but then I just telling myself that it is worth way more to me then the little money I could get from selling it. Plus, it's nice to have spare parts when my stuff brakes, or I can help out a friend in need. No more bikes for a while though...as I just spend a wad on an engagement ring (damn that would have bought a nice new mountain bike). And my girl said if I get one more this year I'll be sleeping in the garage with them. |
right now just 2 ... but i've been heavily considering a new fixed pot hole crushing mountain-esque bike.

Okay, plantdude raises an interesting point, "where the heck do you get the money to own all these super fly cycles? AND where do they all live? I know some of you like in SF/CHI/NY where the apartments are not so big and rents are not so cheap.
