2) nishiki conversion - fenders for ****ty weather and feel slightly better locking it up
3) fuji road bike - for training and road races, 9 sp tiagra
4) azonic steelhead ss mtb - for ****ing around, maybe when i change some stuff up i will bring it by the dirtjumps near my apt.

i have a couple ****ty bikes locked up in my basement, just sold an old peugeot 10sp i used to ride, have a schwinn varsity and a ****ty ss conversion, plus a primered mtb frame im undecided on in my bedroom with the first four bikes i listed. i could say most of them have a specific reason for existing. now i want a beater road bike and a bmx bike, haha. plus a cargo bike. oh ****.

life sure is grand isnt it...

This is true. Everyones "stable" still amounts to less than your standard baseline new car sticker price.

Two bikes, very different.
Bianchi Eros 2004 - It's got 27 speeds on it! It's a beautifuly celeste color! I ride this when I'm riding for speed or just for fun and it's windy or whatever. Plan on doing some roadie pack rides with it too.

Colnago XL 1988 Conversion - It's fixed gear! Crappy paint job, mix matched wheels. I commute on this bike and take it to fixed gear events or ride in the rain. I love it too much to call it a beater though.

And Katio didn't you say you were thinking of building a fixed gear? I assume that would be in addition to your mixte?

Last semester I left my Bianchi in Chicago for the winter and took my Fixed and my "Grocery Bike" to Detroit. The Grocery bike is this old heavy Raleigh with a bent fork. It had front and rear racks. It's really no fun to ride. I took my Fixed to go grocery shopping and ended up giving the Raleigh to my friend, after I removed the racks. She adores it!

So yes, it can be possible to get tired of a bike. That was the first bike I overhauled. First bike I rode a century on. So many memories, and yet I'm glad to be rid of it, and glad someone else is enjoying it.

Future bikes... I could see an actual track bike if I started actually racing on the track. Or a tall bike because I want to learn to weld. Or maybe if I get bored over summer while in Detroit I'll build up a new grocery bike that I'll never ride but use as a lender bike and give away before I move out. Maybe a cyclocross bike... Or a touring bike... Perhaps a folding bike... Or a unicycle...

Dolface: that reminds me of my greatest find about a year and a half ago. I was cruising the Grocery Outlet (an unofficial stop on one of my routes) and discovered organic vegan refried black beans for 20 cents a can. $40 and a full cargo bike later I had meals for the next few months, had saved enough money to buy another new bike, and had a VERY clean colon.

I have:
'82 Schwinn World Sport geared bike. A real tank... fenders, racks, 27x1 1/4 tires. it was my commuter bike when I lived in Portland. Wouldn't think of getting rid of it until it wears out.

'84 Schwinn Super Le Tour. My other geared bike. Recently upgraded with new components and wheels.

'82ish Univega Maximo Sport fixed conversion. My main ride since last September.

New Kogswell G58 fixed. Putting it together now. Should be done before the end of May.

Late '70s Fuji special Road Racer frame. A future fixed project to take advantage of all these parts that seem to show up on my doorstep.

If I were to stumble across a '70 to '85 Paramount 60-62cm track frame at a reasonable price...... well I could probably find the money somewhere.

You paid up for 200 cans up beans w/out even trying them first? Risky man ... risky. I really need to work out a cheaper lifestyle ... food costs me way too much money and for no reason other than my lack of meal planning.

I have one bike, but I really want more. I honestly don't think having more bikes is bad. It is really a whatever. If you ride, awesome. If you collect... more power to ya. So whatever.

4. Trek 9.8: All around fast as hell mountain bike, never gets ridden anymore but hopefully one day
5. EAI bareknuckle: Not completed yet, but soon to be fair-weather commuter and race bike
6. 1947 Schwinn Tornado: Has 3 big ass baskets for grocery-getting
7. 1973 Schwinn Twinn: Tandem bike bought when I had a significant other

I don't think you can have too many bicycles. I think the longer you ride, the more you see the benefit of having specialized bicycles for various types of riding. In a dream world I could very happily have 3-4 road bikes. One for road/climbing races, one for Crits, one for the rain, one (steel) for training. I could then happily have 2-3 track bikes. One commuter/beater, one race-only machine, one pursuit bike. At that point I could also say for mountain bikes: I'll have one hardtail for fast hardpack and lots of climbing, one XC-race full-suspension, and one all-mountain trail bike. I mean the list goes on and on, and they all have their benefits! I can justify another bicycle as long as it has it's uses. As for people with multiple race-bikes or multiple beaters... why not? So what if they are "collectors" AND riders? More power to em' !!
Sure, I could get along much better with one bike... but then my income would go towards something else like say... investments!? Who needs a retirement anyway, right?

Well.
First is the old tank 'Ranger" I have. An old raleigh conversion that is too small, but works well when it is raining and snowing.
Second, the Milwaulkee. Completely rebuilt after I got hit the first time and then got hit gain on it a short time after, it goes everywhere
Third is the Vivalo. Track Specific is all that I can say.

And the more I learn about the history of track racing there are other bikes I would like to pick up becasue of what they are, but in no way do i need them. One of those 3resho's everyone talks about because of the history of the builder. The Masi Dolface had would have been awesome to get. Stuff like that. Yeah, it would be a collection, but guys collect cars, whats wrong with a bike. I would definatly ride them all.

i put one, but thought better later. i also own two that are in storage in another state, that i may or may not ship out here. so i have one that i ride, and own three. why? if i shipped them out here, i'd have the grocery getter that is heavy and slow and not worth riding farther than a couple of miles. i'd also have the rain beater conversion for bad weather when i don't want to get bearings gummed up on decent parts...then there's the one i ride, a decent bike. i also want a beater mtb to beat the hell out of, and a nice bike for the track that i will feel uneasy even riding to the track. and a polo bike. and a backup beater for when bad things happen to the beater.
