According the the Bicycling magazine, the bikes are geared 46x18 - 67 gear inches.
Is that possible or they are really spinning like mad in PLATFORM PEDALS & COASTER BRAKES?

Haha so true... It's actually pretty crazy how serious most of the people take the race. My three sisters go to IU and I go to a rival school. Last year I went down to see qualifying and was bummed because I thought it would be on atleast on a velodrome or something, but its on a friggin high-school looking track. Completely flat, 400m, surface made of churned up tires.

They showed the LI500 on HDNet over the weekend. Lots of gnarly cinder-eatage and one dude managed to lap the field by himself. Fun times.

whats funny is that bicycling mag thought that that gearing was "tall"
however, i really cant snub my nose at going 25mph+ for 50 miles. assuming each team does the minimum of 10 transfers, each rider has to SPIN for 5 miles at that rate... very impressive
