It's not much, but it is a customization, and I like it. I'll be adding more and more as time goes on.

I told my parents that I wanted a large black sling from freight baggage. They took the liberty of getting me one in black and red with the deluxe options. When Travis asked them about the fine details they were at a loss, so he made it as he would want it. The strap system is awesome, very easy to micro adjust on and off the bike. Not too bulky when empty and surprisingly comfortable and stable with a pc tower and 7 cans of beer. Double layer bottom, full heavy tarp liner, front pocket with an inner pocket, compression strap, extra long cargo straps with a pocket to stow them in. Very well thought out and constructed. I love it.

Lace and Fabric online has cordura and water-repellent ripstop, but they're kinda limited on colours.

for those who have made their own bags, do you make a bag layout yourself or do you just 'google' a layout?

This blog entry, which has been posted here before, has a pattern: recycled banner golden mean messenger bags. I credit that with inspiring me to actually make my first one, as it showed me that it wasn't that complicated.

The patterns for what I make now I've worked out on my own though, but you'll find that all messenger bags are variations of the same basic pattern, which is not complicated at all. Turn any bag you have inside out and trace the seams and you'll start to get an idea.

The basic pattern is very simple, it's the details and the construction that makes the difference in different bags - a little change in strap placement here, or side-seam placement there.

If you want to make one yourself, experiment!

my first bag is basically reverse engineered from another computer bag i had.

unfortunately the feed dogs on my mahince are shot, so until i get a new set i have a bunch of bag part lying around, i may just hand so my liner if get bored enough.

if you want to mock one up use newspaper till you get the basic shape you want.
of course once you make one you are going to make another and end up like me with a floor full of fabric and vinyl

I just got mine from Reload today, and I am very pleased with it. It doesn't have super spiffy artwork, the reason I went with custom was to get the features I needed and wanted all in one bag. I basically wanted something that could carry my work stuff like my old Trager Courier Laptop, but handle well on the bike. I've been swinging left since the late '80s, so I needed left swing with a divider for my laptop, and as many pockets as I could get.

The Reload Civilian is all that and more. It handles great on the bike. It could eat my old bag for breakfast, and still have room for brunch! Literally, my old bag carried all my work stuff, and not a lot more. There is easily room in the Reload for my winter jacket, scarf and gloves in addition to my usual stuff. That's what's in it in the first pic. I'm glad I didn't get the Deluxe, the civilian has more than enough room, but cinched up high and tight on my back is less obtrusive than the Trager.

Wig made this bag for me

Smaller than my Reload Civilian, really only to be used for commuting.

The excess strap (above the cam buckle) secures with velcro; the whole hardware is very light.

AKC is probably about 6.

How big it is. For the record, I'm 6' tall and around 170-180? And yes I did just get my hair cut yesterday.

Overall I'm really impressed, although I'm still trying to figure out how to use the strap adjustment most efficiently, the pad needs to be broken in, and the liner is still really stiff, but I like it tons. Anyone wanna see my old faithful courierware that's 10 years old? Or better yet, buy it because it's pre broken in?
Holy **** dude, we have something in common. Do you bring your equipment to jam out with, or for actually playing shows?

I've got a Roland R8, M-Audio Oxygen 8 controller+iBook, and my DJ setup (unfortunately very UNportable). I'm also building myself a talkbox, which should be fairly portable.

That bag looks great, Naz. Good choice on the colors. I would really like one of his backpacks, but I don't think I can wear a backpack ever again after I fractured my clavicle, which is ironic because you can't wear mess bags any more, right?

Dickies bag with a patch sewed on. Way small. Not waterproof at all.

I am going to make a bag myself, (although I have no experiance at all with how to do this), But first i need about 60 of those bags that newspapers come in. You iron them together and you get a nice plastic type fabric you can use for the inside. Anyway I am picky and only saving the colored bags aaand.... I have 2. :/

Don't sweat it, it's a small (2 person) company & you'll have to wait for a custom bag from them if you order anyway, so give them time to answer. They're usually in demand. Lots of people expect prompt replies to be a reflection of good customer service thanks to the nature of email, but for ubersmall companies that manufacture that can be impossible. I'm generally 50-60 emails behind at all times, some wait some get answered right away depending on their circumstance. I take coffee breaks (here, looking at bike ****) & completely ignore email for the sake of sanity, email gets an hour a day, more when there's time. Pat @ PAC is a nice lady & isnt ignoring you.
