Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

a couple revalations

i know there are a lot of threads like this, and i try not to post crap, but i'm stoked about this stuff so nyah.

tonight i finally got around to putting the Nitto 021 bars i got from universal cycles on my bike and i love them. yeah, yeah i didn't have to get Nitto bars specifically but i shopped around and they were decently priced compared to other stuff. i love them for two reasons; first is that when i put my hands near where they curve up at the ends i'm in a very comfortable, reasonable aero position. i'm coming from riding the track drops that came on my Pista and it's like riding a whole new bike. i feel more in stable and in control, and the part that drops off from the stem is also very comfy if i want to sit up a little bit.
to the second reason... in seattle today it rained like it was trying to drown the city. it finally stopped a couple hours ago so i thought i'd go for a ride with the new bars and practice skidding on wet pavement. for some reason the horns made it really easy. i thought it might just be the wet pavement but i found some dry patches and tore at them as fast as i could and went into a skid. granted my tires were wet but still. man is that fun.
and a last couple things. it was 39 degress when i went outside. not exactly t-shirt weather. but all i was wearing was jeans, my awesome curious george jersey, arm warmers, and the secret to staying warm and dry: smart wool t-shirt. if you don't already have something like this or just wear a wool jersey, get one. 39 degrees + wind and i hardly felt a thing. gg smart wool.

ok i'm done. i love my fixie.
