Have you checked the HBMA group on myspace? http://groups.myspace.com/index.cfm?...D9496811442004 If anybody is interested in taking a Sunday Stroll, let me know. sigh...I always wanted a friend:) |
Mr.Hermann, weren't we supposed to go cruise some parking garages? But yeah, check out HBMA on myspace. We got a ride on. sombreros for the first 20. I'll be your friend Sam...
|
oh man oh man. you guys want to make me move back to Houston so much. I would if I didn't have this darned girlfriend. haha.
Anyway, I'll be back in a few months, I'm terrible at relationships and H-town is my home. I probably wouldn't have left had I known you guys existed. Seriously I rarely saw a road bike (outside of Memorial park) and the only fixedgear I ever saw was the rattlecan-paint gold one locked often outside of Helio's. |

I see some lone fixies in the crime-free Montrose, passing by a place where I work on Mondays on West Gray. When I see a group ride its always either been roadies or MTB riders. I am just starting to ride again after being in a no-fun rut for a couple of years; no group rides yet for me yet, and I have yet to take my fixie on the street. Rudyard's does seem to be a mecca for those on two-wheeled transportation, whether bicycle, motorscooter, or full-sized motorcycle. I believe a manager there rides a pink Stella motorscooter with a matching sidecar. Westheimer is one mean street!
|
haha at first I was like "crime free montrose"?! But then I thought about the catholic university neighborhood, the ritzy west alabama area further west, etc etc
I used to spend many nights (literally) sleeping out at montrose/westheimer! sometimes sneaking into apartments to find a wooden deck or something to sleep on. beats dirt anyhow. I remember once riding through Bellaire, Rex, and I found a huge ****ing book. didn't know what it was but later read the entire thing and it was a biography of Marvin Zindler!!!(from Eyewitness News!). |
;) I wondered if someone would comment on the "crime free" part. There was a DJ on K101, which for years was the major rock station in Houston, who always mentioned that he was broadcasting from the "crime free Montrose." Of course, back then, in the 80's, it was wilder than now, though the intersection of Westheimer/Montrose is still a hub for street kids and other homeless folks, and, yes, a certain level of crime. The Taco Cabana on that coner is sometimes called "Taco Cannabis" by a friend of mine, which caused me to laugh for quite a while when I first heard him say it.

Some of use med center folks hook up on wednesday night for a quick 20 up and down braes bayou and then to rice village. Fun ride.
|
i get my stitches out of my foot tomorrow
so i'd be down for an easy ride (my left leg is still tiny as all get out and my ankle still can't handle hard skidding or sprinting yet) later this week. i stay in mid town so i can hit up pretty much anywhere in the loop within a few minutes. anyone going downtown to watch the "houston grand criterium" this weekend (or next? i forget). it seems kind of funny. |
Yeah the Crit is this Sunday. http://www.houstongrandcriterium.com/
Wednesday the 17th is the Ride of Silence. Starts 7 pm at the zoo parking lot. How does a pubcrawl or something sound for the weekend of the 20th/21st? Edit:Would love to go to the Crit, but drinking with the in-laws... I mean hanging out with my in-laws has priority. |

20th is also a Houston Roller Derby bout at the Arabian shrine on N.Braeswood by Kirby. It would be cool to get a ride going and then end up thereabouts. Burn, I will ride with you sometime. Do you know Dustin at Rudyard's (gray Surly)? I've ridden with him and his friends before. |

And yet another thing going on this weekend, the Art Car Parade. |
yeah i know dustin. i've never really ridden with him.
actually, i've never really ridden with anybody in town since i moved back, but i've only been back on the bike for a couple weeks here and there so... i ride the silver/yellow polrad, if you see it/me around, say hi. i'm totally up for pub crawling around the 20th or so. |
what do you mean "start up" Critical Mass? Last I was aware there was one. Well really it was us pack of punks and mostly just an extension of the Food Not Bombs/ Earth First! group of kids. I even remember indymedia marking our rides on the calendar.

Noriel did you ride over to the Roller Derby thing? Thought I spotted you in the crowd. They were actually showing high lights on TV last night.
|
Nah, wasn't me, musta been another guy with a hawk. We had good times this weekend, too much beer, too much sun, and too much beer again. If you're on the street and hear a mini siren, that's us signaling you to come in. burn, if you were out on Saturday, then I think we saw you was your mini-u in your back pocket? Jason, hope your fixie is okay, and that your chainline is straight. Get better and we'll ride again.
Go Psycho Ward Sirens! |
yeah i was out on saturday. went to the art car parade with
my dad then rode all over the place, loitering everywhere i could think of. mini lock in the back pocket and yellow/silver frame, porbably me. i saw a few people riding around the parade area that looked like i should have talked to...next time. |
