man I was THIS close to moving to Houston last week. I was gonna stay at my sister's apartment across from West Oaks mall on the west side and just book it every morning to get downtown (that's like an hour ride, 15 miles or so). And do some messenger work for spare cash to build up bikes since I wouldn't have rent to pay.
But..alas I would miss YellowBike and just seeing people ride bikes here. Also I wouldn't have missed Houston's ***** drivers.
But I gotta say I do miss houston's terrain. flaaaat. You can keep biking all day in Houston as long as you have water. And when you get hungry there's so many middle eastern and oriental cheap restaurants.
mm. Okay I'm gonna have to go to Houston real soon. We can go on a ride!

Live and work in Pasadena, but can be found riding around Houston on the weekends. Be it SS riding at the Ho Chi Minh, or Fix geared pubcrawling around the Heights, Midtown, and D-town.
There is a good possibility I'll be moving to the Heights in the next few months.

Large number of clubs to choose from. Very good velodrome for training/racing (Alkek velodrome on west side). Numerous stores to visit as well. Biking in general in Houston has been steadily progressing over the years. Commute every day since it is temperate. Only draw-back is summer time is a tad warm. Ride with WolfPack and Space City Cycle Club in Clear Lake (south of Houston) and always a good turn-out.

Cool, spidermike, we'll have to hook up. Anyone up for a Cinco De Mayo ride Friday? I need to check with the host to see where we're going, but I guess since we'll be on bikes, it won't really matter.

I'll have to check with my Cruise Director(wife), but let me know where/when for Friday night.

My mom lives in Katy, Texas. I've always enjoyed my trips to Houston in the past... cool city. I'll be there in August if anyone wants to ride or surf.

I've got an 8,6 gun and a 6,6 short. I surfed @ surfside last July. It was cool. Some of the cats in the lineup thought they were were "the *****"... they were half right.
I'd love to ride.
I rode with some kids from Montrose my last trip out. I had a blast riding around the inner loop. Memorial park was cool too. I LOVED Rockey Hill Ranch. Awesome place to ride a Mountain Bike. I'm always telling peeps in SF how much fun I've had in Texas. Cool state.

oh man when you said "I rode with some kids from Montrose" I thought it could abeen me.
probably not.
Also what's with all the bay area kids (clear lake, galveston, league city, etc) liking longboarding? I think everything from pasadena south is a worse off dump so I'm not usually around there.
Man I lived in Katy for many years. ugh. It was weird because I met someone from Katy today. not so odd of chances considering I'm still in Texas but strange yet.

For me, board size is a function of what I can use @ my break. A big, thick board is useless in the frigid, shark infested, open water chop of Ocean Beach. Surfing NorCal is an eyeopening event for most nonlocals. I love when peeps from elsewhere come to the local shop ready to show us how to surf. We had some dip ***** from Austin in last month talking ***** to one of our shapers. When he droped surfside I laughed at him. I told him the body count @ OB is two since January. I think he went golfing.

i'm staying with the folks in houston while my leg heals up from
a break i had in early dec. i've been riding a bit the last few days
and have been pretty impressed how much more bike friendly houston's
become int he six years i've been gone. the velodrome is still a great track
and memorial park is still awesome for both crits and mtn bikes riding.
but downtown, montrose, midtown, heights et. al have become so much better.
i've convinced a few friends to do some bar hopping with me the last few days
and have spent some good solo time riding along the bayou trails and through the wards.
i mightbe up for some pub crawling or just cruising through town assuming the minor surgery i had
this morning is agreeing with me this weekend.

Fifth ward is no fun but why be there anyways? glass all over the road and the metro drivers there are huge dicks to bikes.
I jsut cant stand outerloop riding.

man westheimer still kind of stresses me out.
it's seriously worse than anything i ever rode in new york.
i guess because of the narrow lanes, horrible drivers and winding
roadway near elgin...but yeah otherwise the innercity is getting
pretty good. i'm just waiting to hear about bike vs. lightrail accidents.

my netflix queue and annoying my girlfriend.
