L.A. Bicycle Kitchen...
Anyone been there? What's it like? I'm thinking of going for the first time this weekend. If it's anything like I think it is, it should be really cool.
Do they take donations of bike parts? I have ALL KINDS of parts I'd love to start getting rid of, and I'd rather toss 'em down at a place like (I think) the Bicycle Kitchen is, as opposed to eBay or something like that.

there was an article in Bicycle I think, Cyclist or one of the bike magazine and then a couple pages later the editors built their ideal fixie. I thought someone was going to have a debate thread over this but I guess no one else spends as much time in the dentist waiting room as Ido

I've been. It's a cool place. They have all the tools and most parts you need, and is $7 (??) an hour for stand time. It's much better to go there and work on your bike than going to your LBS and pay more, especially if you don't have all the tools you need.

they are pretty good there at the bicycle kitchen. I love what they stand for and everyone is pretty nice. Great place to pickup used frames and parts, they dont charge ebay prices but they do charge for stuff, i mean they have to stay open some how. Got any spare parts :-) i could use some too...
but yea, and its $7 an hour for a stand and you can use anytool that they have. I had to rethread my Miele and used their super pricey park tools rethreader.. think the stupid tool costs like 700 bucks. i paid 4 bucks to use it because it only took me about 45 minutes to do ti and fix my bike. it would have cost me 50 bucks at the LBS and i just trust myself that much more with my own toys

I'm glad to hear good things about them. We are modeling our emerging co-op in Sac after them. Hopefully we will have the same luck.

Is that really the ph number? That gets me laughing.
Actually I think I have solved my latest BB riddle with something a little cheaper than a Phil. Thanks.

We have a space in Oak Park and are getting ready to open up at the end of June. We have had tons of support in the cycling community here. Are you in Sac? PM me if you want to be involved.

before you haul all your valuable junk down there, you might give them a call first, they don't have unlimited storage space. Or maybe it was just that my stuff really was junk, anyway it gave me an excuse to turn an old varsity into a grocery getter machine. They always take kids bikes for their earn-a-bike program though.
Very nice and helpful people, always crowded when I went there so I just worked on the floor or someplace, didn't even know they charged money. Even bought a tee shirt, never wear it, not my style. really. i swear.

I wish they did an exchange thing. I gave them a bike, but still had to pay for a cable and a few used nuts I needed at the same time.
