Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

New SS ride!! (My first)

Hey all, I've come into some good luck after having my bike stolen last weekend (in the form of an insurance check and some great deals at a local bike swap, and overall cool shop The Skirack)

Yesterday I picked up my first singlespeed/fixed bike and today I got to really test her out. Went over to a friends house about 3 mi. away and was having such a good time I decided to tack on another 12 miles and do a loop from Burlington to Colchester and back.

My new bike is a Jamis Sputnik 59cm w/ stock 06 specs except some Tektro levers ($10 from a cool dude at the shop off one of his old bikes) and some Tiagra calipers, and a freewheel as I’m not quite ready for fixed yet.

This bike is blazing fast in the acceleration department, and it’s steel frame feels light yet very compliant over the roads I crossed today. I actually rode in a pair of jeans (I didn’t originally intend on going this far) and the Fizik Pave saddle is the best I’ve rode yet, I’ll be putting one of these on my other road bike very soon!

Anyway here’s what we’ve been waiting for….

Keep spinning!

Hey, nice ride. Was your bike locked up near Radio Bean yesterday afternoon? It's the first I've seen here in town.
