Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

No. Man with bike was clean-cut and (I believe) mustacchioed. This is not a "hippie."

I agree. It's things like this that make me truely appriciate the bicycle. That people more than 100 years ago were doing the same dumb **** that we do to show off, is something I find comforting.

i did a google and didn't find anything. except that his inspiration for the special theory of relativity came while he was riding his bike.

Please somebody dig up the Einstein vid. I'm dying from curiosity. Yahoo video search failed.
(At least it found the cutest animal video I have ever seen: Einstein, the talking parrot who does animal sounds and sci-fi laser gun sounds. Just search Einstein if you wanna see it.)

i tried searching for both videos, but didn't have a whole lot of luck.

maybe i tricked myself into thinking the einstein thing, but you know that guy had to have been doing some cool tricks back in the day.

Smoother version of Edison movie

And, while we're at it, how about a turn of the century striptease on a trapeze?

Lots more where these came from:
