Do squ taper shimano bb's come in symmetrical axles? If i buy a philwood bb what axle length would i need for a 44mm chainline with a IRO crank.

Yes, I think all BB come symmetrical. I think we need to know what crank you are using for your second question.

not all shimano BBs are symmetrical

i.e. the 107 and 110mm BBs will give you the same chainline. The only difference is that the 110 has the extra 3mm on the NDs
the 113 is symmetrical.

Tony suggests the 110 for a 42mm chainline. so a 113 should give ~45mm
