when used with a half link(or not). i can get about an eight of horizontal movement, without it being to close to the end.

1/8" is theoretically enough to adjust a 1 tooth difference. Though in practise it will be tough
you'll have to find a magic ratio and work from there

(ie. it depends on your chainstay length)

i figure it'd work just fine as long as you aren't too close to the end, or hit the back and still have slack.

With some luck you can run perfect chain tension on semivertical dropouts even without the half link!
