grips..

ok.. i did the search thingy.. whatever..

i have soyo grips.. and bianchi pista drops... should it be easier than it is to put them on?

onetwentyeight 05-17-06 11:08 AM

no, they're a total ***** to get on. spray a bunch of rubbing alcohol or hairspray inside them and on your bars, then let em dry for a few hours.

mattface 05-17-06 11:21 AM

No. It should be just as hard as it is.

mcatano 05-17-06 11:30 AM

Grant...? Is that you?

Cynikal 05-17-06 11:32 AM

I have the champs and I just rolled them on like a condom. Good times

the hairspray helps

-1 on the hairspray. Last time I did that, I rode in heavy rain (it was a mtb race actually) and water got in my grips and they were spinng on the bars. Not fun. Just go to the shop and have them blow them on with compressed air.

alcohol is ok, since it will all evaporate, but hairspray will leave a sticky residue that gets slippery again if you get it wet.

dirtyphotons 05-17-06 01:47 PM

hm, good to know. thanks.

cardstock 05-17-06 02:28 PM

windex has always been a personal favorite...........

roscoenyc57 05-17-06 02:33 PM

you might want to wear some gloves too as you are twistin' them on there..

sers 05-17-06 02:34 PM

windex is the best i've found for getting grips on/off

queerpunk 05-17-06 02:37 PM

i found rubbing alcohol to be far superior to windex

yeah it's me... i got a lot of stuff in the mail today.. pretty excited.
new pedals and cages.. and grips and tape..

these grips are just a ***** though..

some guy told me to boil the grips so they'd absorb water and expand?
but that didnt' work.. haha.

i'm now greasing them up... potentially.. a bad idea but here goes.

Don't do that - just come over and I will help you get them on. All it takes is patience, muscle and a can of pressurized rubbing alcohol. I have one of the three (guess which!).

Moximitre 05-17-06 03:10 PM

MIKE: "oh, grant, these grips are so hard to get on to you Pista bars.."
GRANT: "perhaps we should try some windex, or grease"

queue 80's music porno music.

Edit: yeah, I know it was lame... ugh.. I'm off to the co-op to buy fenders...

shawnrock@gmail 05-17-06 03:11 PM

Rubbing alcohol is the best- it evaporates really fast. Hairspray doesn't really evaporate. I've heard tri flow works great- anyone use it for this?

Man I love getting new bike stuff. You ever walk around a bike shop just looking for something new, but there's NOTHING YOU NEED!!! AAAAGGGHH!!!!! It's terrifying.

especially with soyo grips. That tiny diamond texture takes off skin.
I got mine on with rubbing alcohol, just poured it right in the grips and slid them on.

the locust 05-17-06 03:33 PM

use wd40 it melts the inside of the grips a bit and lubes em up for a few minutes then once it evaporates the grips will be slightly melted to your bars. works great every time

teiaperigosa 05-17-06 07:37 PM

Wd40

or nothing in your price range? that's heartbreaking.

loaf 05-18-06 01:35 AM

wd40? hmmm, never woulda thought that would work.

I usually just clean the bars with rubbing alcohol and then get the grips on with water. They move around a bit for a day or two and then stick like nobody's biznazz.

ZappCatt 05-18-06 01:48 AM

rubbing alcohol

arevalo 05-18-06 01:59 AM

soak em in rubbing alcohol.
