big feet help
what are the options for someone with a size 13 foot riding a frame with tight geometry? there is a good 2 inch over lap with large toe clips and 165 cranks. does anyone with that big of a foot use med toe clips?

Damn, what size bike do you ride? I wear a size 12/13 shoe and I'm 6' tall.
I've got a 61 cm Bianchi Pista (that's C-T, not C-C) with 170 mm cranks and XL toe clips and the wheel just rubs. I can clear corners with no trouble.

53 seems a bit small for his height. Unless he's got really short legs, it seems like he should be able to ride a larger frame. He's going to have issues with overlap no matter what he does with a frame that size.

tell him to fit a 56 or 58 frame. A 53 sounds just way too small. A larger frame would probably fix the toe overlap issue. Clipless pedals could also help, and is well worth the investment.

i wear a 13... actually, 48 Sidi Genius' when i ride and egg beaters. i used L clips when i had my MKS esquartz on the bike... i never had rubbing issues... then again my geometry is about as tight as a skid row hooker.

You could change to some M toe clips but you may find it awakward or your foot may slip out more. If you prefer to have more of your foot in the pedal (the ball of your foot or more) that definitely wont be the case with a smaller size. Clips, as mentioned, is another option as long as you are confortable with being "locked in." My buddy wears a 12.5 and he rode my bike a few times and got annoyed and just used the underside of the pedals.
I wear an 11 and I wish I had the large instead. I went from clips, which I had adjusted perfectly, to M clips and found I have less of my foot over the pedal. I have rediculous toe overlap on my frame (2"+ with 165 cranks and M toe clips) and I just rode a lot and got used to it. You'll be fine, just dont turn tight and start straight.

On the topic of feet sizes. My friend wears a size 15, and double W. He can't find any decent priced clipless shoes. I think he's willing to spend a bit of money, but shoes that do fit him are like high end shoes costing waaaay out of what he's willing to pay. He's looking for an entry level mtb/sandal shoe, but can't find anything. Anyone have large feet problems like this, or have any suggestions to help em?

Best way to avoid toe overlap? Don't turn sharply (or slowly) enough that it's a problem. $0 spent, and you just became a better rider. </snark>
