My bike was stolen *sniff *sniff.
129829631_6558ca11e0.jpg
Hello,
My bike was jacked from my stairwell in my apartment (in san francisco) because
one of my neighbors left the gate open (and i only put it there when i have friends
over and need the extra space). It was an eggshell yellow "level" keirin frame.
It took almost two years to find my dream bike, save up money and build it up, and
I've had it for around 2 months, till it got freakin' stolen. Unfortunately (or fortunately
in some cases, well...not this one.) I aint some rich kid that has scrill lying around to
replace it but whatever, such is life.
Here is my flickr page with some more images: https://flickr.com/photos/14911930@N00/129829631/
Although its a long shot, any help or suggestions or whatever, would be much appreciated.
Im going to post something on CL and my homie posted something on the SFFGF.
Interestingly enough, my friend said that a lot of the bikes stolen here end up in
LA and vice-versa. I remember reading some post here about what to do, so i'll
definitely look that up on the search but thought I should ask as well.
Thanks for taken the time. If anything comes up feel free to PM me. Thanks again.
Peace,
Amadeo

Ooooh that's horrible. I would be heartbroken if my bike was stolen. Good luck on recovering it. I don't know what the police would do in that situation, but maybe it wouldn't hurt to give them a call, since it is probably one of a kind. Maybe they don't care. Who knows.

yet another case for renter's insurance. if you love something enough to hate life if it is stolen, then insurance is worth it. Renter's insurance really isnt that much either. I pay $100ish a year for $10000 of coverage.
And the argument that you didnt have enough money was already defeated by the bike you had stolen.
Deep down, I hope you get the bike back and the head of the theif as a bonus. A stolen bike is never cool.
Best of luck!

for renter/homeowners insurance:
Get a video camera and tape the items in your apartment with the value as voice over. Works like a charm in case your stuff gets jacked. Then put that **** in a fireproof safe.

yeah, after my door got kicked in on new year's day, i signed up for $20,000 in coverage that night. given the sheer amount of crap i have in my tiny apartment, i should've gone for $30,000, but i figure, they can't take everything. i also keep my bikes chained together with a kryptonite NYC chain...all six ofthem.

Did they cut the lock? Was it locked at all? It's painful to have a bike stolen, but I have to scold you at least a little if you repeatedly left a bike like that unlocked in an apartment stairwell in SF and didn't expect it to disappear eventually. If it was locked with a cheap lock or in a manner that was easy to defeat, the same applies.
That said, I feel your pain. I hope you get it back.

What a beautiful bike. I actually have an empty feeling in my stomach knowing that its owner doesn't have it anymore. The thief probably won't appreciate the beauty of it a fraction of the way you did.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Hey I would recommend checking out all the flea markets you can THIS Saturday AND Sunday. I had a debernardi stolen in much the same way over a year ago and I got a tip that it was at the concord flea market that weekend.

Thanks everybody for the support! good lookin' out.
[165]:
Wow $100ish isnt bad. where did you get your renters insurance from?
MacG:
Trust me I've been scolding myself. I live in a pretty safe neighborhood in which you can get away with a lot worse, but I guess that isnt really an excuse. I dont actually leave it there repeatedly, in fact I think it was only the second time I have put it there, and it was only for that night. But thats all it takes, right? Also its a narrow, enclosed stairwell, behind a heavy duty gate and is easily overlooked as it fits under this weird pg&e meter thing. Long story short it was more the fact that we have these new neighboors who just forgot to close it, coupled with a slip in the usual paranoid/overprotective behavior due to a few beers after a loooong day of presentation deadlines. Just thought I'd explain to reply to your post. This all kind of moot, considering.
Once again, thanks all for the support. And people try to give this forum a bad name. You guys rock.
