Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

so, I'm riding home, 30 minutes ago (that's 12:45ish central). I'm on a major road going up a major hill. A cliff is four feet to my right, a river is 200 feet to my left. A car runs up behind me, changes to the left lane and yells at me "Get a light!", so I reply "Turn on your ****ing lights so you can see me!"
Now I do in fact need a light but I still don't think it will save me from reckless and/or drunk drivers.
ps: I'm drunk. Went to a warehouse show with a free keg.
They speed up, pull in front of me and slam on the brakes, to a dead halt. I veer to the left of them and we exchange profane vocabulary. They speed off, I pull back to the right. The next car that passes me up is a police car.
Sirens go on, lights flash.
they got theirs.
karma.
-------
There are so many ******* drivers out there, every day. It's nice to see one finally get what's coming to them.

Also while I was at work my girlfrind had my keys and three of my dollars. When I came home my pantry was full of groceries. aaah.

btw I am wearing a red/white soccer jersey and a red bandana. I'm sure that it isn't hard to see me once I'm in a car's line of sight. Plus street lamps illuminate me.

Good story.

[whispers] ...you should still get a light, though.

does me not having lights validate a car, with reckless drivers, almost forcing me to smash into their rear end? I have a feeling that if I already risked death on accident (no lights) they shouldn't try to guarantee my death (or serous injury) the second time around.
I've actually had a car slam on their brakes before (that car got cut off), and I still have 1400$ in medical bills (assuming I go to a dentist and fixed what's still broken).

I was in the same situation, I was riding on Bowery St and was merging on to 4 th ave in NYC when i was moving over the guy in the car speed up to cut me off ( I signal I was moving over).

We stopped at the light and like you we exchanged words.

The guy then ran the red light after I went through and the car behind us happened to be a Federal Marshal watching the whole thing. He stopped him dead on the spot!

Issue him a bunch of tickets (Yes, I stopped to make sure he was getting his).

If I mess up when driving or riding , I will take full responsibilty for my actions so should people who drive.

S/F,
CEYA!

agreed. they obviously knew you were there, lights or not. you should get a light, but i don't think being unlit is really pertinent in this discussion.

reckless driving = standard. gotta watch that ****.
yelling at you to get a light = good advice delivered badly
trying to cause an accident = evil mother****ers.
