Single Speed chain tensioners ?

Has anyone here used one of these ebay single speed conversion kits with their shimano freehubs ?

I ordered this one just to try it out and see if I like it...

This one comes with an 18t DX shimano sprocket... I don't know what the DX stands for but I suppose it may be a slightly thicker cog for single speed use...

Any thoughts ??

Bikes: mountain, road, fixed

They work just fine, though I think the newer version with the built in chain guide around the pulley wheel is probably better. I had the version pictured and amazingly got it to last for about 8 months of riding fixed by not skidding or skipping. Ultimately, riding stairs proved to be too much for it and it now looks very intact, just twisted and mangled such that you wouldn't realize what it is the intact version of.

In general that was when I figured out that if Surly wrote on their packaging that their product could handle just about anything except a particular use(fixed riding in this case), they weren't kidding. Most of their **** is bombproof.

Awesome!

Thanks for the info..

I don't plan to ride fixed with this, I just want an option for my regular road bike once in a while...

=)

Thanks!

I've used one for a while. If you are using it for road use, install the tensioner to push the chain up instead on pullin git down. You get more cog engagement. The spacer thing works well and you can fully adjust your chain line.

It should. Mine is the early surly which is identical to the one above.
