finally. some people are blowing this waaay out proportion. i skitch frequently around nyc, usually on trucks or busses, and no one has ever gotten angry, if they even notice. i usually don't do it on private rides or cabs because they're liable to accellerate too fast and they're more awkward to grab.

agreed - if i have a long way to go and it's windy or i'm running late, i don't hesitate to grab onto something moving faster than me - semis are best, then buses, and maybe pickups. i've had a couple pickups damn near rip my arm off after taking off from a stoplight though. never even bothered with a car.

as for the "angry" thing - a couple times i've had trucks actually STOP and wait for me to go. i could only assume they're worried about liability or my safety or something

i think half the fun sometimes is the reaction from peds as well as the occasional driver as you go shooting by at 40mph holding onto a semi - i don't even know how many thumbs-ups i've gotten.

man up for taking the easy way out, lol.
i can see the points argued on both sides.
i've thought about it a few times but haven't done it...usually there is a red light just up the road so why be in a hurry to get there or increase your speed just so you have to slow down...

and i don't really desire to have to move my feet fast enough to run 40mph on my bike when i'm inches from a car with one hand off the bars.

I do it on my freewheel.

It might antagonize drivers, but so is running lights and splitting lanes. Whatever; I still respect right-of-way. That's the important one.

I was on Sheridan Road just north of Bryn Maer (chicago) once and a taxi driver actually told me to grab onto his cab. I did. It was windy.

I usually do this on the largest, most frightening vehicles (semis, mail trucks, raised pick-ups), as they tend to have the best handle positioning and keep me from having to lean over and get my nose that much closer to the grindstone that is the vehicle's tire.

A bus? Why not just draft the bus--- it is practically the same thing, so long as you are not working against gravity.

+1 on drafting. Is it that hard to keep up with a city bus?

Oh my god! Selab 2021 is my new favorite satire. That's even better than Robot Chicken.
