anyone know about their rates of failure? i heard if ever abused, they are prone to disasterous cracking.

Anything you abuse is going to fail sooner or later. Especially aluminum bars. Can't bend 'em back like the steel ones. My advice, don't abuse them.

Personally I dig the Cinelli Criteriums. They are half way between track bars and road bars and because they don't say "Pista" on them can be found for $25 on ebay. Tops are a bit more useable. Stick em in a nice Cinelli stem and you are golden.
